I borrowed handles headset and portable radio so I could have a play with it,,,now I'm no expert on this stuff but so far every bit of this kit looks quality. Nothing is light weight crap it all seems to be heavy robust equipment. Hope it works as good as it looks.

Took some pics of both,,,. Some interesting features included,,,it has 2 PTT's,,,one in the cable with volume adjustment and one on the headset. It also has an extra plug on the cable which you would presume is for a different radio.

"""Well I was just thinking, I could make the offer of walking around pit lane looking all important and testing your pit lane comms...""".

How does that work tiger,,,I fit it,,,you test it.

Cheers

Neil.

Well I wouldn't want all that heavy robust equipment hanging from an old mans head/kneck... You know, you're not as strong as you used to be Neil... :D

Plus, normally when ever I put something together I get someone else to try it... That way if it blows up or injuries occur, I'm standing a good 10metres away...

It actually looks nearly identical to the gear that I was using at Eastern Creek for Superlap last year.

If it is, those noise cancelling head phones are UNBELIEVEABLY good!

Exept when you have an unusally large head like me..then fark did they hurt after the first day lol

hmm been a while since an update.

Firstly, this setup is excellent. The quality and toughness of the components kills anything else I've seen right up to the big $$ stuff.

Secondly, the after sales service from PMD has been excellent. Quick answer of phone and email questions, and they re-programmed both radios to the new 80 channel setups + firmware upgrades at no cost. Even got a stubby cooler which was the clincher.

Finally....my car has interferance from the bloody wb 02 sensor controller. I've tried literally everything to seperate them, any time the intercom and 02 sensor are on there is interferance. I can't think of any solution but a relay to turn off the o2 sensor when I hit the push to talk button....any other ideas appreciated.

Move the cables away from each other? Run a shielded cable that is grounded?

Yeah I kinda skipped the troubleshooting, this is what I've tried.

Run the intercom off a seperate battery (ie no link to the car's electrical). Perfect

Run seperate earth for intercom (was shared). Interference

Run seperate power for intercom (was shared). Interference

Run sheilded + and - from battery to intercom, routed away from other wires. Interference

Add small (and later large) filter on the positive of both the intercom and o2 sensor. Interference

BTW the interference is not specific to the PMD gear, the Terraphone had the same issue.

have you tried running a diode on the power line as it goes into the O2 and on the earth cable and do the same on the PMD gear?

It would probably be useful to put a CRO across the power signals and see what the power signal actually looks like.

But a small setup with a few diodes and possibly a cap or two to clean it up should work well.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
