Wait and see what his new housing looks like...

I wouldnt get one of the housings that has the little 3 bolt outlet behind the turbine..

You would want the rear of the turbo to be all open so the WG flow path doesnt interrupt the turbines path. Ive previously emailed him about that and I think they are working on the replacement now.

Iv recently bought one of these turbos td06h-20g going on a rb20 I had mine made custom as i needed the the 8 cm housing no extra charge and came with all fittings and braided lines. With the waste gate you can just cut the welds and tap the bung out then plumb it in I was thinking about it.

Thanks for that. I did send him an email back asking if there are any negatives to the turbo he is offering so we'll see if he's honest :P

Just out of curiosity how much sooner do you think the TD05 would spool over the TD06? Do you think it'd be worth it?

It's hard to find any rb20 TD05 results on the internet. I haven't had any luck finding any apart from a few vids but no figures.

i asked around everywhere and in the br20 dyno results there was a 20 with a tdo5 only made just over 220 i think and seemed like full boost was around 3600rpm so for 400 more rpm you can have 260+ with the td06h-20g on a 20 all depends on your power goels and if you dont mind waiting to have your neck snaped haha

Your best option in my opinion is a td06l2

I would go the td06h I'm going on the td06l2 with 10cm housing on a 25 so a 8cm housing would be killer on a 20

I have tried both the 10cm and 8cm housing on an RB20 and the 8cm housing is definitely the way to go. That said I suspect a TD05h-18G would be a better bet. A friend had a TD05-20G and it was pretty rubbish. The little TD05 exhaust wheel loses some of its response trying to spin the bigger 20G wheel.

My 2c is decide if you can live with the lag and go TD06-20G or decide to sacrifice 20-30rwkws for more point and shoot and go a TD05-18G. I am constantly on the hunt for a TD05-18G as I suspect with 20psi up it will make for a quick car, often quicker then a car with a TD06-20G

Ah Roy, I was waiting for your response, seems as though i got the idea for TD05-18G from your build thread. I think I'll be waiting untill the end of Novemeber than for my Turbo. He even said he can custom make an exhuast housing (or atleast that's what i gathered from his repsonse) on the back of it to bolt directly to the stock flange dump pipe (so there'd be no need to make a vband dump pipe) but i think its best to keep the 3" v band for better flow?

In saying that I'm pretty sure the dump i have now is 3" so wouldn't really matter if that was true. And if the power of the TD05 becomes boring for naother 750 (who knows might be cheaper in a year) you can go to the TD06, as for what i would be doing i think response would be best at this point.

When do you think a TD05-18G would hit full boost by Roy on the 20?

When do you think a TD05-18G would hit full boost by Roy on the 20?

I personally wouldnt be too fussed about when it hits 18psi. Plus there are so many variables. Make sure you have cam gears, no restriction in the exhaust and a good tuner. It will be more responsive then the TD06-20G but the big gain will be in the transient response. The 20G spools from around 3,500rpm and hits 18psi about 500-600rpm later. The 18G may only start spooling say 3,400rpm but because the lower inertia wheels spin quicker and harder you will be seeing 18psi perhaps only 300-400rpm later meaning it gets its boogy on earlier.

If you have a std plenum and cams I expect quite often the car would be quicker then the 20G...now i dont know any of this for a fact but suspect it to be the case so I have been looking for a Trust TD05H-18G for about 18 months now :)

Roy I just want to confirm that both the 18 and 20g compressors have a 68mm OD. In actual fact so does the 16g..

Its the inducer and trim that sets them all apart.

IE the rotating mass of a td06-18g and td06-20g would be down to the last few grams.

You are right. I have copied and pasted the following into spreadsheets over the years:

18G - 50.5mm/68mm ; 55 trim (some places call it a 50 trim...can anyone confirm?)

20G - 52.6mm/68mm ; 60 trim

See the bottom two-right compressor wheels for 18G next to 20G. So not a huge difference but whilst the smaller inducer hurts cfm, it also reduces wheel mass and reduces the moment of inertia

Exhaust side, the TD05 wheel is a good wack smaller

There are two 16Gs, and the smaller wheel has a smaller OD, though the "Big" 16G is the same

There are two versions of the 16G compressor the big and small wheel. The small wheel version has a 60mm exducer and the big wheel has the 68mm exducer. Just out of interest the T517z runs the big wheel version of the 16G compressor.

With the 20G vs' 18G comparison, even though the wheels exducer sizes are the same the 20G will be trying to move a lot more air even at low shaft speeds. The drive for the moving of the extra air has to come from the turbine which will need more gas flow to achieve the same shaft and hence need higher engine rev's to gain the extra flow. This is why larger trim compressor's are less responsive than their smaller siblings.

P.S. I'll be interested to see how your kando results compare to Trust T518z results. Is there anything done to the head ie. cams etc?

Finally got my TD06L2 20G 10cm put on and its awesome!

Same as stock response but better!

Now to get some things done and tuned :)

Just the results I am after! What motor is this on? And what fuel will you be running?

You can see in this video from the weekend that in 3rd gear on a couple of the slower corners I am struggling for a little bit of drive on corner exits....Winton is the reason why I want to get a TD05H-18G to try, et more poke out of the corners. Winton is the toughest circuit for the RB20 running a 20G...but it makes you really work hard to try and carry as much corner speed as possible to keep boost up it

Yeh, yeh... i know i am whoring this vid everywhere :whistling:

I miss Winton.

Looking at the vid though...its kinda hard to tell...but im sure your "laggy little rb20" is pulling harder out of those 3rd gear corners harder than my rb25 with a highflow

While it might not be swinging as hard as it can, it still seems to be pulling well

Sorry that much I knew guys, AFAIK the 16g is the 60mm and the 16g6 is the 68mm as far as model numbers go.

I think the T517Z is also a TD05-17c but I would need to look into that again.

The SR in question is an internally standard S13 SR20DE in every way. Will be running Nismo 740s, Z32, Walbro, 450mm china core, 3" tbe and a Nistune. Has been running on a factory T28 and DET tune at 11psi/183rwkw for the last 6 years so the update will be interesting. We are aiming for 250rwkw and it will be tuned at Unigroup.

Theres a guy with an SR in a E36 on youpoop that had a T517z and went to a T518z, I cant remember if he commented he lost a little response or gained a little peak yet the vise versa was unchanged.. I think it was that he lost a little response but I honestly forget. The big T518z cars i see all run 10cm rears on SR's..... Interesting concept.. I myself am dreaming of putting an Evo TS variant on mine (S15 10:1 CR SR20DE), that would be truly dangerous.

    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
