OK more or less the same CFM of air (with a resultant HP) will have a higher EGT with the higher comp.

The TD05H-18g Jez tuned for me recently on a 9.5cr motor would start pinging once we hit 16ish psi. Pulling timing wasnt helping..... I have a feeling the 8cm IWG TD05H was just a shit balance when driving a big compressor on a high comp motor. It comes on boost very early and strong, just didnt want to take the boost.

It did make 207rwkw @ 15psi on a Mainline dyno, but hey we wanted more :whistling: It did not appear to be an issue with the way it was being tuned as I was on site watching timing and fuel trims being altered to combat the ping.

Was it super responsive with the high compression ratio of 9.5?

Jez can vouch, it is a very responsive setup.

Made 530nm @ 4200rpm and 207kw @ 6000rpm.

Im very curious to see what 10:1cr does, my motor is also a VCT model.

Haha come on man.

Still running besides the 150ml of oil in the sump after the sandwhich plate snapped off the block. New bearings and sat on limiter all day at wakefield.

I honestly havent checked the inj duty. My tial 44 arrived today so hoping to dyno it next week on 20+psi then off to the drags.

Nah sydney is horrid for E85, will be tuned on 98.

Thus my EGT concerns lol

Ah yes i see haha.

A mate and I used to own turbo commy V6s (yes flame on lol) and he had a stock ecotec with 9.2 compression and a GT3076 0.82 turbo. Car was fantastic made between 250-280rwkw depending on tunes and was super responsive.

Then he blew that engine and had a forged one built with 8.0 compression as per the advice of the guy building it. I said thats stupid but he trusted other guy more than me :(.

Car lost a lot of response and struggled to make 250rwkw with the turbo running hard.

I told him that he needed a GT35 and lots of boost to get the low compression engine in its element but he didnt want to loose more response. He ended up getting over it and selling it.

The higher the compression you can safely run to make your power level taking fuel into consideration is what I reckon is the best, especially for a street car.

Then I read about people putting turbos on stock M3 engines that are 11.5 compression with E85 with crazy results.

All this E85 talk :( , i'm getting tempted , i wonder what it costs for a 44gal? . Anyways , i picked up my turbo from the post office today :D i can't wait to get it all fitted , just a quick question about ext gate positioning , is it better to mount it off the exh housing or off the manifold??

I have not seen that many cars running E85 day to day. Those that I have seen running normally take forever to crank and idle like cops until warm etc if they dont foul plugs. Is there someting in the tuning of them or thats just the nature of the beast. Certainly I am yet to see an E85 powered car crank to life like on 98 and not splutter blowing sweet smelling fumes out the exhaust.

Not saying this is how it has to be...just that those I have seen have put me off it as there must be a trick to getting them nice for day to day

Mine starts identical on both E85 and 98 whether cold or hot. Although Trent from Status has tuned a heap of cars on E85 so has had a lot of experience with it. But the point is its definitely possible. My mum borrows my car and hasnt mentioned a thing lol

Right , i think i might make another thread on it soon

p.s artz , i'm not fussy whistling.gif

ok after a bit of a google search , E85 isn't the best choice for me , but the united 98 i was talking about a couple pages ago seems like the best compromise . link http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/fuels/premium-98

You can't get E85 in the UK, well you could at about 8 petrol stations then it was stopped.

There is an E5 I think though, it is the same nominal octane as the Shell 99 I use. Would E5 be better than a 99 RON (which has no ethanol)??? Both are 99RON.

you would have to find out what the RON rating is of E5, in Australia the E10 was/is a 91RON fuel unless advertised as a Premium 98 with Ethanol which is a 98RON..

I would go with what ever has the highest RON rating

anyway back to Kando turbo's worship.gif

And you would have to Nistune it even if you had a manual ECU, because the turbo ECUs will shit the bed if they do not have all the things that they were told they have to have, to be happy. The big one being the TCS CU, which you won't have in your car. Anyway, with an auto ECU (which I have running my originally auto NeoDET in an R32) Nistune allows you to put in a Stagea image which doesn't panic about the absent TCS, and allows you to override a whle bunch of other annoyances that would otherwise see the check engine light on 100% of the time. Also, you can't wind up the power very far on the stock NeoDET ECUs without Nistune, because the boost sensor gets in the way. Nistune allows you to push that problem much further up the dial. Do you even have the boost sensor with the engine? Without it, you are SOL and will need an aftermarket ECU (or to find a sensor somewhere, god knows where). I can't tell you what the wiring loom differences are in a 34. But what Duncan said above needs to be considered. When you say "loom", does that include the transmission loom? Because you will need to swap out the auto tranny loom for the equivalent manual loom, and get rid of the neutral/park start interlock (basically hot wire it).
    • I have had the r3c in for years now, maybe close to 7 years and it has never missed a beat, anyone can drive it. Super easy to drive around town, the hotter it gets does get a little hard but it holds the power easy as
    • Shit thing to find eh? I guess the big issue is that whatever "fix" you do now, it might slow the rust down but won't fix it. I just wanted to add that in no way is fixing sheet metal in 3 dimensions the place to start with welding....that is a pro only job because its too hard to work out where things should be, let alone doing a clean enough job that it can look OK and still be strong too.  I needed to get a new rear quarter panel on the GTR and it took a pro weeks to get the old one off cleanly, new one on in the right place and looking somewhat like it should have with most of the previous connecting panels in place. Gluing a couple of bits of metal together with a welder in the garage is doable, but that is totally different to doing panel  replacement
    • This seems to be a very popular swap since all the turbo skyline prices went through the roof! I'll let someone more familiar chime in, but I understand that yes you probably want to swap the loom in to swap out the auto TCM stuff. You should not assume everything just plugs in either, you need to check at least the ECU wiring diagram for any differences at the plug at the left headlight and probably the ones near the ECU that join the dash loom too
    • hows it fellas, my first post here which seems crazy cos half the forums i read are like the same age as me haha. to make a long story short ive got an r34 sedan (rb25de neo auto) which im swapping to a s0/s1? rb25det, r33 big box and nismo gt pro lsd. i have the motor and gearbox all bolted up outside the car, old motor and trans out. i bought the motor with stock ecu and loom, do i switch over to that? or will it be easier to get a r34 manual ecu and keep the loom if thats even possible.  also engine mounts look different, anything else thats different or incompatible? cheers, hope this all makes sense Paddy
