Finally I got something worth posting in this section.Today I installed my cat-back, BOV and smoked fender indicators, sounds nice now! Tomorrow the center dash comes out and I'm gonna make up a single din plate to mount up the 52mm gauges i got and maybe a switch panel to go in the ashtray nice and stealth like. Lovin the satisfaction you get from DIY

Well not so much something I did, but some little punk ass vandal bitch threw a rock at my car last night and smashed the right fog light. NOT HAPPY!!! :domokun:

Too dark to catch him, and I didn't realise that it was actually smashed until I got to my gfs place. Bulb is intact, just need the glass. Betting replacing it will cost enough to give me the irrits, but not enough to put through insurance, unless the paint is marked in the light of day.

In happier news, going round to Brad's shortly to get my stereo stuff done. Should take my mind off the fog light...

Glenn, sounds like good stuff, did you get your Nistune sorted too?

You heading to Kadina next weekend Ruby?

Sure am! Most likely heading up Saturday evening (after a kids birthday party) for the sunday show. Stag is in it. Its Ford country up there, so I'm thinking of sticking some Ford badges on it

The one I was looking at ended up not being compatable on account mine isn't a rs4, so the nistune will have to wait till I got the coin for the chip + tune.

Luckily I got plenty of other bits and pieces I can mess around with in the meantime. Didnt get anything done today, we'll see if I get round to it tomorrow

FINALLY installed the new head unit. has an extra feature i didnt realise. the music kept playing when i unplugged the ipod cable. yes, music over BlueTooth!

just gotta put the AUX cable in and run all the crap to the rear tv tuner, and finally mount that properly. maybe i wont show up to work tomorrow..........

Brad and I (well, mostly Brad :whistling: ) got the new head unit, HDTV tuner and English conversion installed.

Immaculate job, comes up looking almost factory with the head unit screen folded in. English translation unleashes some extra goodies too.

Couple of annoying quirks with the Clarion head unit, it doesn't allow AV IN while connected to the iPod (needs the USB cord disconnected) and we couldn't get around the video block. Should be able to sort the second one out in time.

Huge job, but everything went back perfectly and I'm very happy with the result. Thanks Brad!

nice work but does the blue tooth connection quality drop from cable??

always wondered!

ohh damn, i bet mine will do that too! might mean BT streaming for me........... i dont like the idea of unplugging the USB cable all the time as i want it plugged in permanantly and the video lead to the TV tuner AV input.

Aaron, quality didnt appear to change. but i couldnt get it up very lound due to neighbours. BT has enough bandwidth for a 128k/sec music stream AFAIK.

ouch thats a lot of coin. could put a car PC in for that price and do even more

Yeah I know...but I don't wanna deal with the windoze crashing or BSODing or some other shit that comes along with PC's...

Plus I get mates rate for this stuff anyway...

LOL...lucky you.

I'm sure BSOD's are always a layer 8 issue..never Redmond's fault right? :whistling:

Mostly, yes :P

Its like if you put Mazda 121 brakes on your Stagea, is it Nissans fault if you cant stop?

LOL...

Don't get me wrong, I love Win7, I run it on my HTPC and users have nothing but good thing to say after we've rolled out 500 new Dell's with Win7 on them.

I just can't be stuffed having to deal with a BSOD if, say, I developed a bad sector on the HDD where the MBR sits. Yes, running a SSD will minimise shit like that from happening...but I deal with enough of that crap daily. The Stag's my place of "zen"!!

I know a carputer is more flexible and whatnot but by the time I get all the parts the price is pretty close to what I can get one of these Alpine HU's anyway...

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
