Ok i did search too but didnt come up with my answers.

Anyway, I bought a car from the act that i am getting registered here this week. Getting the rwc on monday and booked in to vicroads on wednesday.

I'd like to register it as a 2 seater. Now when i booked in to vicroads, I asked the person on the phone what the requirements are(obviously remove seats and seatbelts), but did i need a vass to go with it. They had no idea, started rambling about how you can only change seating plans on buses, not cars. in other words, they were no help.

So question is, do i need a vass after removing seatbelts and rear seats, or can I just take it into vicroads on wednesday with the shit removed and register it as a 2 seater on the spot.

Thank You

:)

No, VASS isn't required.

I've done it coz I have a half cage.

Just take everything out and register as 2 seater as Martin said. Easy...

Only catch is if you wanna put it back to 4/5 seater then you need engineers cert even though you're only bolting factory stuff back in. Stupid but true.

did you have to get it inspected?

edit: missed martins post... i just kinda worry bout taing my car to be inspected by vic roads....

am i missing something but whats the advantage of having the car registered as a 2 seater unless its a track car like russ's and has a cage..any other reasons why it would be benifitial? coz i might do that then....so i can tell mates no more than one passenger :P

this...

I've done it: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/Modifications/RemoveAddReplaceSeats.htm

Removing seats

The requirements for removing seats will vary depending on:

  • the original number of seating positions
  • the new number of seating positions
  • which seats are removed
  • when the vehicle was manufactured

An Approval Certificate is not required if:

  • the number of original seating positions was less than 10
  • 10 or more seating positions have been reduced to 2 - 3 seats in the front row only
  • 10 or more seating positions have been reduced to 4 - 9 seats in a vehicle manufactured before 1970
  • more than 12 seating positions have been reduced to 10-12 seats in a vehicle manufactured before 1986
  • the number of seating positions does not reduce to below 13

If the modification is not listed above an Approval Certificate is required.

Lol I normally have prime parking at vicroads. Everytime I have been there I've parked next to the door. In the inspection area LOL
