I had my first drive of a turbocharged car last night. A 1986 HR31 Skyline GTS.

F*&king amazing! I've been passenger in a heap of turbo cars, but I finally got to drive on. And boost, well friggin hell. Coming on boost is a top feelin. Bugger my NA 31. Turbo 2 door is in the works.

Just had to share it with you boys, I'm sure you remember the first time you drove a turbo..

Cheers, MARK

Ooh yeah, my first drive of a turbo car was a mate's auto MX6. Absolutely loved it, except for the FWD torque steer.

I kinda like lag - without it, how would you get the rush when the turbo comes on song? :(

my first drive was in my cuz's auto VL with stage 2 mods when i was still on my P's...this thing was a monster!! freakin scared the shiit outta me but thats what its all about, a turbo takes u to that limit uve never been before and u just dont want to go back. once u got turbo u cant go back:D

Well funnily enough, i drove a WRX when i was on my p's and it was such a nice car to drive, but it was my Dad's so i didn't want to do anything too dumb... still had fun though. Then he let me drive his STi, which to be honest was a bit uninspiring compared to driving the standard rex... But it wasn't until i went for a ride in my friends VL Turbo with an RB25 in it that I wanted a turbo. Since then i've been doing research etc, and well now i have my own RB25DET to boost away on :D

my first drive in turbo car was a mates Laser TX3 3 days later it was in shop as the head was gone. Electronic boost controller 1.2bar hmmmmm Boost!! don't mix well with TX3 engines.

Should have cost 2k to fix it, instead we used a metal head gasket and lots of gasket goop. The car was then sold 4 days later. haha. I wonder why he won't let me drive his SR20 180sx??. So after that i put a RB20DET into my silvia and haven't looked back, they style of a silvia with the heart of a skyline!!!

My first drive of a turbo was during a rally driving course I did for my 21st and was in a galant VR4 turbo. That course such awesome fun and i just loved the turbo kick. Two months later my SR20'd Pulsar was no more and my R33 turbo was taking me for a boostin'

:D :burnout: :D

    • Wow ELVIS. You have an....interesting approach to conversation. Did you not notice that I wasn't talking to you?
    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
