I know I will get ALOT of hate for this especially in a Skyline Forum but how hard is a 2JZ swap while KEEPING the 4WD is the GT-R (R34). What's involved and how much money. Please don't curse at me for even talking about this but no one can deny the 2JZ is a monster. It can also be stroked to a massive 3.4 litres which would come in handy spooling those turbos and low end torque. I know RIPS NZ does RB30s and strokes them too but that aside how hard is this thing.

Let me start the flaming for you guys.

"How could you even ask this, the RB engines are ART pure and simple mate. You're a bloody idiot for even thinking about this. They should send you to jail immediately. The RBs toast the 2JZ cheese engine and they make the Skyline pedigree and identity"

OK now that the flaming is over, start the discussion.

How much do you want for your rb26 If you are planning on selling it once it's out... Yeah I know the whole 2jz in a GTR is such a degradation to it's true nature but can't pass up the opportunity to see if I can get a good buy :-)

No way I've asked the GT4 has some chassis differences the GT-R, besides I just put a deposit down on one so yh. I love the 2JZ sound, it's one of the few I6s that sound deep and mean. It also has larger capacity potential and the power figures they make are amazing. I know of that build on Tremek, I know it's been done. I wanna know how much and what it would take, who would do it and most importantly keeping the 4WD Otherwise I'd just drop an LS3 in there (which I would never do to a GT-R). If the build is too hard and costly I'll just get Robbie Ward from RIPS NZ to build me a stroker RB30. That company really seems to know it's craft. Just check their vids on YouTube, no one builds better RB30s.

or how bout a stroker rb26/28/30 etc??? basically same displacement, better performance, sound you can get from a custom made manifold.

but bit for bit, i say the rb outdoes the 2j anyday, unless your looking at going into the 1500hp+ then there will be a bit of a diff.

rb monsters all the way

i love stuff like this that goes against conventional ideas (and in turn, pisses people off, lol). you would need to get a custom bell housing made up for the gearbox, unless the 2jz mates up with one of the landcruiser gearboxes, but then it's a case of trying to get that to fit in the trans tunnel. then it would just be a case of mounting the engine and hoping it has enough clearance.

rb26/30 would be a cheaper option though

Good luck finding a 4wd sump for the 2JZ, not to mention the 2jz turbos are on the same side as the front driveshaft.

Would be a massive nightmare of a job....so unless you have 100 large to play with I would leave the 26 in there, 26/30 is a big enough head f**k!

100k?!! Now way i would rather get a RIPS built engine then. I was thinking of the OS Giken RB315 but the price is crazy and the RB30s can be stroked for more displacement so that's not an option either.

So I guess this is a stupid expensive job that won't yield a result much more than what the RB can do.

(OO) SKYLINE (OO), the Skyline is NO DOUBT the better car, the Supra can't even compete but the 2JZ might be the better engine. Still not worth the trouble.

Both 6 speeds in supra and R34 are getrags, so I'm sure you could use the front end of one and the back of the other to bolt up the transfer case.

Alloy custom sump made up with the gtr front diff.

Single turbo and some clever pipework?

I'd end up doing a 30 bottom end or a nissan VK56 v8 if I had the money and chance lol.

baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha. biggest over estimate ever. take a zero off your estimate and it would be much more accurate.

front dirve shaft wouldn't be an issue with a high mount turbo. just get a custom made sump (or take to the stock one with a hammer, LOL) or see if a sump from a cruise or something like that would fit.

Can i ask why?

If you've got nothing better to do and cash burning a hole in your wallet, all the power to you and go for it.

On the other hand, if you want something specific from the car - track car, drag car etc etc, what is it about a 2j that you think the RB can't handle/do?

Option 1 keep RB and spend money sorting it

Option 2 pay money for 2j, pay for transplant and still have an engine no where near as good as option 1 for the same coin.

I just don't get it?

Oh and yes i live teh RB, but my thinking would be the same the other way around. Would never consider puutting an Rb in a supra. Not because they're not good, but because the 2j is fine.

Was talking to a friend re the gearboxes, forgetting AWD for 1 second, even the RWD gearboxes are _totally_ different between different models of getrag, it isn't like you can just swap bell housings with these things.

i agree with NISMO / bobby - i dont *get* it..

it doesn't go against convention... it would cost soooo much ridiculous money...

why don't you get a supra? or an aristo?

and keep your GTR?

have two cars?

i just don't /get/ this.

there is however an AWD toyota soarer with a stroked 2JZ.. 1000hp i beleive

...buuuuuut it's useless as a car... food for thought

Sooooo this is like buying an ice-cream cone from baskin robbins then getting the actual ice-cream from wendys. I don't see the point either tbh.

But hey if you want to do it and you have the cash to throw around I don't see why not.

Or is this a school holidays post? wacko.gif

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
