well, got a quote from hollinger for a "kit" $19,400+gst for the 6 speed r33 seq. with shift indicator, wiring harness ect ect. After the time and money spent on this POS, it seems i shoulda gone that way in the first place :( Awaiting a quote from modena and feedback from a few ppl usung them.

yeah you know the deal. like you say people happily spend $20K on engine bits, or $10K on a paint job etc. From memory a full monty PPG with all the upgrade bits etc is $10-$12K by the time it's installed in a box and set-up. so the hollinger is not that big a step up, and don't forget with the PPG or PAR you have to sacrifice your own box too. where as with the hollinger if you have a working box you can sell it and put that $1K-$1.5K towards the price of the hollinger.

yeah they guy who i bought it off had a reciept for 12.5k... and if someone buys mine i will have enough for the hollinger...

modena are good. but mainly porsche. what about albins?

atm we have ditched some timing and boost out of it, due to the gearbox dramas and we are making 390 whp. when the tune is given the stick again it will see around 450-470whp. The car is driven on the weekends and does the hillclimbs and friday nights at the drags, when ever i get it working. But like i stated in the previous post, it will be getting built in the coming months/year with either a nitto or BC stroker kit and a top end job to suit.

As for the giken box, i know. People swear by them, but would you want a box designed primarily for street use behind something that sees regular hillclimb/khana/test and tune events?

Mate i could give you a LONG list of cars running in hill climbs/rally events (targa and the like) that ALL run the factory gearboxes.

All of them are totally and utterly fine. The odd car might break a box here/there, but in the grand scheme of things when a box costs around 800 - it'll take you 10 years before you've come close to spending Holinger money.

If you are only making 450rwhp, a PAR gearbox is a waste of money for a start.

OS gearset is massively stronger again. I can't even say I've heard of someone breaking one and there are plenty of people running 400-600rwkw through them.

have seen plenty of albins gearsets in older cars like S1 RX7s etc and other cars getting around in various state series but haven't seen then used in any GTRs or much other modern stuff but that doesn't mean there aren't any out there. the guys with RX7s seemed happy with them, but they are a much lighter car, with mush less traction and much less power than the average GTR.

The hollinger is bloody expensive up front but it's still the best "value" option. Yeah it's $20K but they are sequential, 6 speed, light and compact, last well and have fantastic re-sale. a newly serviced one will sell anywhere from $12K-$15K easily.

from memory they are a version of the H6S SEQ. not sure what exact model. I think you need to buy the GTR specific one. not just adapt a 'generic' model, though it's probably possible, most likely just need a clutch to match the input shaft, correct length tail shaft and a rear housing or adapter on it to mate to the transfer case. if you're serious about it talk to hollinger, they are pretty helpful.

dodge them mate, thats my personal opinion based heavily on my experiences with them. I have gone to a different gearset and the par one sits on the bench as a paperweight, they are garbage. On pulldown it had hairline cracks on the gear faces, poorly cleaned up machine marks(burrs ect) bearing mating surfaces were not in tolerance ect ect and its still waiting to be settled by small claims.

Did you end up going with Modena? When I spoke with Frank he had a 6-speed designed for a R32/R33 GTR casing but had not ever made any yet.

    • Thank you, 100% the intent. New coils were due and the 17" sixers look/feel loads better than the stock wheels. The aero options are so spot on.   Thanks for the warm welcome, all!
    • 98 r34 gtt Been rocking my latest setup and car running like never before. Have put a good 200 miles on it since all the latest changes and additions. everything is dialed in and have been driving it a bunch.   However, all a sudden last weekend as soon as I pushed throttle passed 4k and the engine stumbles, (slow or fast acceleration) hesitates and doesn’t go above 4100 or so, like a misfire. Everything else seems fine. I had a “good” set of coil packs that I removed from car when I first got it when I changed them over to new coils. I swapped out current ones for those, but no change. I also changed the plugs, no change. Seems to rev over 4 when out of gear with no load just fine no “misfire”, but as soon as its in gear with a load of any kind, it “misfires” as soon as rpm drop back below 4 k it runs perfectly, smooth, starts, restarts and drives fine as long as I keep it below 4 k while in gear. All readings look fine, no CEL   Any idea as to what could all a sudden cause an issue when pushing rpms passed 4 k?
    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
