Hi guys.

I've started looking around for an M35, having done a lot of research on here over the past month or so.

I found one in particular I'm keen on, at Northshore Prestige: http://www.northshoreprestige.com.au/view.php/used_cars/2001_Nissan_Stagea_250tRS_FOUR_White_5_Speed_Automatic_Wagon/4470190/

It seems to have everything that I've decided I want, and it seems to just be a clean, tidy and stock car.

I've done some searching on here, and I know that Northshore are highly recommended. I've also spoken to Ben about the car in question and I thought the attitude was great.

However having never purchased a car from interstate I'm a little hesitant. I'll be getting it inspected by some mobile car inspection mob before hand, but then I was planning on simply flying in from SA, and driving it home. I believe once in SA it then has to have an identity check and we're good to transfer the rego.

Before I get to that stage I was hoping someone might have been past and could verify that it actually looks as neat, clean and tidy as it does in the pics?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

Wow, sure looks tidy in the pictures  .

I can understand why you want to ensure it's a good one before shipping interstate, but if I was going to trust anyone, based on reputation; I'd trust these guys. It's not local to me otherwise I'd look, but maybe one of the other guys can swing by and check it out.

Good Luck

Ryan, how soon do you need it sighted?

Also they offer Free Interstate delivery on the car. That would save you a few dollars over driving it back.

Cheers

Andy

That's Service! saves you a flight and a few tank of fuel, AND extra K's on the car!

I know, and I'm still kind of tempted by that. But according to Ben it'll take about 2.5 weeks! Although I am pretty busy for the next 3 weeks, it might be easier.

Guess I'm just reluctant to buy something like a car sight unseen.

In no real hurry to get it sighted, just want to get in before someone else buys it!

Dale: Yeah I've spent a lot of time checking out these forums, searching, etc, and I've no doubt Northshore will be right. I guess I'd just like someone who isn't selling me something to see if it looks as good :P

Just get a Stateroads check done on the car...they're pretty thorough and knows imports better then your regular RACV jobbies...

That's what I did and flew up the Sydney to collect the car after getting a report on it. And its was spot on...when Scott installed the exhaust on my car he said it seemed like it was in pretty good nick...

apart from the farting BOV and the rocker gasket leak that most VQ25DET has that is >_<

It'll take 2.5 weeks as it won't yet be complied.

I have either bought or organised a number of M35's from Northshore. Would have no hesitation buying from them again... even unsighted, only had one issue which was the rear window motor.

Otherwise, all the cars have been damn near perfect.

Thanks everyone.

pkb1776 said he thought it looked pretty good so I might arrange a check on it. Stateroads the best people to go for? Looks like they're around the $150-200 mark.

I asked Ben who he'd suggest, and he said he didn't want to make any suggestions because he wanted it to be completely independent, which I totally respect. I mentioned to him the NRMA and he suggested I look at someone else, because apparently the NRMA aren't mobile?

I've never lived in Sydney so have no idea what the go is, but I know our NRMA equivalent (RAA) are mobile. I'm just doing this for a bit of peace of mind.

yeah they do mobile inspections, but they cant chuck it up on ramps or a hoist to perform a thorough check.

IMO NRMA inspection is a waste of money, get a mechanic who knows their sh!t to check it out.

Are there any mechanics on here familiar with Stagea's who'd do an inspection/report for me (for a fee of course)?

If I get Northside to put NSW rego on it (which I understand makes things easier when I get it in SA) it has to go through a roadworthy check. Is that worthwhile or is it overly basic?

+1 I went to check the car I am buying with a trusted mechanic

kev i rekon dont purchase it with rego on it.

technically youre supposed to change it once you take ownership so it would need to have SA rego as you live there thus wasting the 12 months of NSW rego which youll never see again because NSW RTA is tight lol

Northshore offered to put 3 months on it. Would that make getting SA rego easier, because it's already been registered in Australia? Would also mean I can drive it from my place down to the inspection place for the ID check.

Just out of curiousity; I've been looking at M35's also and am also located in SA.

Have you had a look at this one? M35 Stagea Adelaide

It has around the same Kms, Sunroof and Aero... but cheaper.

either way its changing from north shore to your name, which means the check is the same.

It would only make a difference if northshore put it in your name and your states place as a car dealer. which means they have to travel to your state

Yeah I enquired about that one but it was already sold pending payment. I told them to let me know if it fell through and they didn't, so I'm guessing its sold,

Ah... well, thats a pity. The Mrs and I were looking at it too and just waiting to get our finances in order before getting too excited about buying it.

I'll have to break the news, lol. =)

Might have to get a 3.5L after all!

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
