OK, so my R32 GTS(25)T has seen better days...

Has some rust, etc & I am looking at giving it a long term overhaul.

Unfortunately it is currently my only car (maybe not for long) so can't be off road for large amounts of time.

I can pick up a cheap GTR with mechanical problems (engine, turbos, etc) very cheap & want to use the shell as a donor for all my running gear.

So basically would strip it down, remove all AWD gear & fit my stuff in.

Advantages (in my opinion) are:

Wide-body (ish) shell (great for extra track, looks better, etc)

Clutch booster (I run a HEAVY clutch & anything that will help is great)

Plastic fuel tank (won't rust, larger & I assume lighter?)

Plenty of standard GTR bits included with shell (seats, etc)

Can spend time prepping body, etc while still driving my car

Can pick this up for what a BARE GTST shell would cost...

I know GTR rear-end can be used but front end I'm a bit unsure of...

I know I would need to remove GTR front sub-frame & fit GTST subframe but will that just bolt straight in?

What problems am I likely to face? (apart from abuse from GTR owners :whistling: )

Has anyone ever heard of or seen anything like this before?

Or anyone know both chassis well enough that they can give me some definite answers?

Would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Like it has been said. DO IT. Leave the GTR rear cradle in it as it has bigger drive shafts, so if you do more mods to increase hp, the larger drive shafts will come in handy. The positioning of the engine mounts are different I have heard. When putting a 26 in a GTST shell, the motor sits a bit further forward compared to the 20 and 25's. It may not be a problem, but it's something I have been told by a mate that put a 26 in his GTST. Not too sure whether you have a similar drama or not going the opposite way.

differences in the front frame rails for one. I would look at where the pickup points for the front crossmember are and start there. if the pickups are in the same spot I would do a literal drop of the front of yours and toss it in the GTR shell. the reverse wont work so if youare going to do major work on teh otehr shell I would suggest making a jig to roll it around on.

as fro doing the engine swap only - no. there are two engine blocks - 4wd and 2wd. they are not interchangeable. the 4wd is wider.

if they were it would have been a lot easier for me . ( I own a GTS4.) I have a WGNC34 RB25 to go into mine.

lol, when he can get the non running GTR for practically free and he has the RWD stuff ready to go, it's a no brainer IMO :)

I do however love egging on GTR drivers that cant grasp the concept that some people dont actually want an R ;)

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
