Hey guys i am having trouble deciding what oil pump

I am going to use the car as a Street / Drift / curcuit

has a 1.5mm oil restrictor in the block i am wanting to go to a 1.1 i think

Read all i can on the Nitto and Tomei pumps but i cant decide what one to pick??

My impression is both strong pumps. The Tomei's pressure can be adjusted externally when mounted. The Nitto's pressure can only be adjusted by springs.

The Tomei is also adjusted by springs/shims, externally.

I picked Tomei last week for pressure adjustment convenience, and they have also been around alot longer than the Nittos.

Correct me if I am wrong yet the Tomei item is not suited to bolt on application.

From my limited knowledge the Tomei is a higher flowing pump which would probably require more than a simple restrictor to head oil supply.

The JUN item is said to be really good and is also the choice of a close friend on here after some careful (and dubious) research. You may want to consider this item also yet try to stay as close to an OEM replacement item as possible unless you are going for specific goals and have a big build in the process.

Drift + added oil flow could be an issue, especially when all you are doing is banging in a piece that changes the ID of the oil pressure capillaries.

Just purchased a tomei pump. The new HKS pump is meant to have an even higher flow rate then the tomei pump, and also carries the pressure valve on the outside of the pump. Think it may cost the same as the tomei one too!

Good point mark, about adjusting oil pressure as the higher the pressure the better it is for the bearings and less chance of damaging your engine.

I know when I bought my nitto from jim @ crd he was telling the reason he has the option to lower the oil pressure is purely to make the other non believers happy...u need to cater for all customers.

Do yourself a favour, if u live in syd drop into crd and have a look at their nitto pump which is on display and has chewed pieces of an engine block via a massive failure AND the pump gear is still in 1 piece. Amazing stuff and hard to comprehend until u see with your own eyes.

Nitto is my choice :)

Something else I will also add, to advice from ppl in the know such as paul deimar @ red r racing!

For example, the nitto bottom end kit far exceeds the tomei bottom kit in terms of qaulity and tolerance straight off the shelf

    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something? 
    • I couldn't agree more. I should have started from the get-go with a NEO or solid bucket conversion. I started looking into converting over to solid lifters yesterday.     • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo.
