No Crust Racing
I've got an S13 with a CA in it making a bit over 160kw at the moment using an SAFC V2. I realise I'll only gain minimal power from the ability to control timing but I'm interested in getting hold of a proper engine management setup that will allow me to do my own tuning. I'm looking at the Nistune and the E-Manage at present but am open to other ideas and am curious as to what other self-tuners are doing. Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/ Share on other sites
pipster11
i've been thinking about buying one of these kits for ages now http://14point7.com/ it will give you an accurate display of your afr's which is what you want to trim with your safc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5785724 Share on other sites
VB-
i've played with both nistune and emanage. bin the emanage idea and use the nistune. get yourself a wideband and some form of knock detection. fine some open road and try not to blow shit up Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5785804 Share on other sites

Ie. No point having a knock light if it's set to the wrong frequency for the car. And from what i've searched people have had trouble with the SAFC/ii etc knock detection? tridentt150v
^^^what he says and if you do get knock readings take it to a shop that has a Gizmo and get your readings checked against theirs, then you have a benchmark to work off. and with th pfc you get two birds with one stone = ecu and knock reader. Note that its not the best one, it even has issues with noise and vibration affecting the readings, but as long as you get your readings checked [to confirm that they are real and not noise] then you can use it. Thats what I did, I had knock readings of up to 130 and then had this checked against a gizmo which confirmed it. I fixed the knock and got it checked again and was also confirmed. I can look at my knock readings on my pfc hand controller and be reasonably confident that they are a good indicator - I believe in the readings. No Crust Racing
So no love for the nistune? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5786828 Share on other sites
KiwiRS4T
Nistune is fine but you would have to get something else to check knock levels if you're going to play with the timing so a second hand PFC would probably be more cost effective or better still a Link/Vipec with the knock control which would be more expensive (and you would be better to get your turbo upgraded with that money). Beelzeboss
Adaptronic, the adaptive tuning is easy to use and works. It's also plug-n-play. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5787907 Share on other sites
DVS JEZ
P-FC + CA18 = Rare and expensive $950+14.40 on ebay right now. then just a widebandor adaptronic $900ish plus wideband plus knock box, plenty of options depending on your budget, then you should buy a dyno Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5787916 Share on other sites
DVS JEZ
So no love for the nistune? for learning power fc is easier than a nistune, well depending on what mods you are planning on running, nistune can be a bit tricky when changing inj and AFM etc for learners Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/362520-best-diy-tuning-solution/#findComment-5787919 Share on other sites
