Hey,

I love the m35 stagea. The body style is awesome but I feel the issues with the engine and low turbo life is letting it down. This is where I come to my next question. If later on down the track I was to put a 2jz (personsal favourite) would I still use the m35 ecu to run the cars features minus engine and gearbox control. would I run into any limp mode issues or will that be over as I would have you use a throttle cable. I am after answers not to be critisied guys. I know there are alot of guys who like the engine in the stageas and im not going to say anything. This is just a personal interest for myself.

Cheers josh

Sorry Josh.......you lost me on this.....while the 2JZ is a great motor it's "-" factor is huge compared to something like a VQ platform.

I am sure there are a couple of guy's on here that will tell you the first thing that even the VQ25 does better is torque....then there's the weight of the cast Iron block....ect!!!!....we have only just started to play with this motor and we are up to 300AWKW's /1100nm's.....and remember we are still on the standard turbo housings with that!..........I wonder what that would be in 2WD land!....not to mention then going to a VQ35!

If you don't like VQ's you can alway's go to the Nissan V8's or even a Gen III!

Tractor cast iron straight line six's are a thing of the past!....If you want to get this thing to hunt in the 11's it needs to go on a major diet and be Manual

Has someone kidnapped you profile from a Toyota site????? :P

the obvious question would be 'why would you', and in the next breath i'd say 'doesn't matter - you won't'.

but in all seriousness, you would probably have better luck and better results privately importing one of these.

Well despite the issues others have mentioned, will it even physically fit? Isn't the 2JZ an inline 6, whereas the VQ25 is a V6, which would make it shorter?

And if you're using a 2JZ + Manual trans with aftermarket engine management and a cable throttle, I don't see why you'd have any issues with limp mode or anything. I don't know if you can use the M35 computer to just run accessories, windows, etc and use the aftermarket stuff for engine and trans?

For all the headaches you'd have, I think you'd be far better off with a VQ35 and a turbo, maybe HKS kit like someone on here has (but hasn't fitted because he's slack and gone to Japan... :whistling: )

can I ask what benefit you believe you'll get from doing this?

It's different......but then again so is the Stagea.....I guess it's a matter of how unique you want to go! IMO it's taking a 2000+ model car back to the 90's.

lol nah seriously

there is also the whole legal side of it, engineering the engine. IF someone will actually do it its definitely going to cost more than its worth

I am not normally a Toyota fan, but the blue Crown Wagon is, to me, seriously HOT.

It seems to have an S1 front with a not too sloped rear I find the 35's too Volvo.

Look up on Google for this wagon and you will find some great pics.

Now going to wash my mouth out. (With a VB) LOL .

Maybe you should've had that in bold lol

You will run into issues, no doubt. Anything can fit with enough money thrown at it, but putting a 2j in an M35 would seriously screw the excellent weight distribution among other things.

You may have a little trouble controlling the variable valve without the stock ECU I would think (again, depending on which ECU you used)

The amount of cash it would cost to put a 2j + trans (+ AWD?), you could probably buy a Crown Estate OR built up the M35's engine and trans for some pretty serious power.

Seriously, if you want a 2j that bad, sell your M35 and get a Crown Estate.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
