Hey guys,

This topic is kind of self explanatory and pointless, but anyways.. :P

I serviced my car today, put in some new plugs, cleaned my K&N air filter, and god-damn, it feels like I have gained 20-25kw all the way through the rev range! From a rolling start in second gear with 265 tyres it was spinning the wheels! (never used to happen) I really can't overstate how much better it feels to drive.

So yeah, if you haven't serviced your car in a while, give it a shot, you may be surprised!

heres a silly little true story about not servicing your car..

old mate gets a brand spanking new 2005 model ute on lease arrangement, he has never had a new car or even a good car for that matter just keeps buying old bombs until this ute..

gets first service at 5000kms at mazda for warranty purposes .continues to drive the car then gets another service at 40,000kms at some backstreet mechanic.. continues to drive the car..

@ 110,000kms (just out of warranty of course) because of all his rubbish (empty ciggy packs etc) piled up on his dash doesn't see the oil light come on and pretty much runs it dry and all of a sudden clunk clunk clunk..suspected big end bearing..fills it with oil and continues to drive despite sounding like a tractor, drops it at mechanic who thinks he can fix it charges him 600$ to pull some stuff apart but cant find the problem..

however after filling it with some nice thick oil the noise quietens down to an acceptable level and he continues to drive it.

@ 180,000kms its running like absolute shit and wont start at times..i tell him to get it serviced..he replies with "it doesn't need servicing it just wont start" I give up arguing with him over it cause he doesn't want to listen..A week later he rings me stressed cause his car wont start and he has to go to work, I say whatever man get it serviced..he calls a mobile mechanic who comes out and puts new spark plugs in it for the Grand total of..

wait for it..

160$ :woot: could of got a complete service for that with enough change for a 4pack of woodstocks and a packet of horizons..

but this was a temporary fix..he then starts complaining that its using too much fuel, i tell him it probably needs a new air filter hes too dopey to do it so i take him to the servo and blow the dust out with a compressor, he is amazed by his new found response and extra 20km per tank fuel economy..

it rattled its way to about 200,000km before it was repossessed, the only thing that was ever changed on the car was the oil and filter about 3 times then continuos top ups after it went clunk a ,2 sets of spark plugs, 1 set of front brake pads, 2 s/h tyres and 2 old tyres I gave him

which is a pretty good effort really

You change plugs and clean your air filter every 3000? That's dedication hah.

Generally not air filter... but oil, filter, plugs every 3000 on the tick. and the oil isn't cheap... $75, about $15 for filter and $25ish for plugs

but I am much happier to be paying that then fixing crap because I didn't service it regularly

Lol, I service my car every 3000kms. It doesn't make a noticeable difference because I never let it get that old in the first place.

+2 when i buy a new car regardless of what they previous owner says, i get a full service done, for piece of mind

EDIT: new car and previous owner cannot go in the same sentence lol, but you get me

^^ This!

But I change oil and oil filter at every 5000kms.

Air filter clean at the start of a service then at about 2500 - 3000kms then again at next service.

    • haha this shit box doesn't drink coolant, for now       Let me guess, they make heaps of power, use the car for straight line driving and don't care about noise

    • Hello everyone. I've recently started the research into R34 GTR front bits and running into eye watering prices. On the plus site it looks like some places make 'replacement' fender liners for these cars. At eye-watering-but-less than stock prices. I also noticed there's plenty of diffuser options available too. What I would like to know is if my following assumptions are correct. 1) The OEM guard liners are actually only 'half' the liner. They go together with the OEM brake vents which are a separate item which looks to be quite a large 'panel' that is part of the liner. The GTR bumper has bolt holes along the front. I assume the ones in the vent correspond to the ones the OEM liner does not have (circled?)   2) The V-Spec front diffuser supplants the brake ducts in the above item. I am assuming these still work with the guard liners as there's no alternate part that I'm aware of. I don't see how they go together, so I'm making the assumption that they have to, somehow. I know the center splash guard is different on the V-Spec (and is the price of the damn diffuser alone). How does the liner interact with this? 3) There's alternate front diffusers that do away with it all. Annoyingly, a lot of the clones and CF different ones... have no brake ducts on them. I like the idea of them though. My brakes get hot on the track. These alternate diffusers are a lot cheaper than plastic splash guards. I'm assuming you don't have to/aren't supposed to remove guard liners to run a diffuser. I suspect that quite a few people actually do not run the guard liner because with a front undertray you're getting a lot of 'splash' guarding anyway, and most people remove liners given they're probably running a pretty aggressive setup with a diffuser at the front. It would also be nice to know if anyone has ever run the 'reproduction' guard liners and know whether the fitment is OEM quality or "OEM Quality". Example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/356254671561 https://carbonetics.net/products/nissan-skyline-r34-gtr-plastic-front-wheel-arch-set Is this knowledge still around?
    • Really, effort is pretty low. You hand fistfuls of cash over to someone else and pick it up when done...   And at least this shitbox isn't drinking coolant right?
    • And most chargers that most DIY people own would put bugger all power back into the battery between cylinders. I've always done it with jumper packs/second battery connected. And that's on any car.   Because race car, and wanting the lightness.  At least in an R33, putting a bigger battery in can at least help shift the weight balance backwards
