Thought I would post this up for any one that takes or is thinking of taking Omega 3 Fish Oil supplements and wanted to get one of the best ones. Like with anything, not all companies make equal products and there are quite a lot of differences. I don't normally eat a lot of seafood so I dare say my Omega 3 levels would be low hence why I wanted to find one of the better ones (hell if i'm going to the effort of taking a supplement I may as well get the most beneficial one).

I spent a little bit of time researching what the ins and outs of these supplements are and what the best was. Without rewriting what I have read I will simply link one of the better articles I found and show a little extract.

Pretty good price really and you only have to take two pills a day (unlike some others I have seen which can be 6 a day). Normally I just take ones from Coles/Woolworths but will be ordering some of these instead.

They also make a premimum and ultra version (which contains the same fish oil amounts) however add in a few extra benefits.

Hope this helps some of you if you wanted to take Omega 3 pills but weren't really sure what to take :)

I take a one a day type with 300mg EPA/200mg DHA. Its a personal preference through research that I go for that ratio rather than higher DHA.

I do stick to certain brands for an omega-3 devoid of toxicity elements.

No indigestion or aftertaste.

Do I notice a difference? I only use it to maintain short term memory by oxygenating myelin sheaths of nerve cells, so I guess I'll never know unless it fails. I'm just trusting.research I know.

Nah not yet. Going to order some this weekend for myself and my parents aswell, just going to show them first and have a look at the ones they take. They might order those ULTRA ones since it seems to have some extra benefits for older adults.

I dare say there will be a fishy after taste. All the ones I have taken do. As long as these are not any worse I can put up with it lol. I find taking them with some food helps a lot.

Says to take 2/day? Each bottle is ment to be a months supply.

Or do you mean because multiple people will be using the same pack?

I think that's the only size they sell. However you get free shipping if you order over $60. There is also some sort of loyalty program where if you continue buying with them you get better discounts or something. Havn't really read into that to much.

What about this Krill Oil shit i keep hearing about...anyone recommend it? Supposedly alot better than your standard fish oil.

my whole family uses fish oil... even my bro-in-law who says it helps with his gout, but I'm allergic to fish so its a no-go for me... what are some other sources of omega-3 I can try to fill that hole in my diet?

Unfortunately there really is no other "great" sources. You can get it from flaxseed oil, hemp oil and algae. However our bodies don't use the fatty acids in plants as efficiently as from seafood.

I get indigestion, I have tried different ones, they always cause problems for me.

I can eat 1 200g tin of tuna a day and thats about my limit.

But I've certainly read that the more "pure" they are, the better in that regard. So you certainly get what you pay for in that area.

As terry stated the thing you need to know with fish oil is that the active ingredients are EPA and DHA. These are your 2 fatty acids that you get from fish.

In most of the shelf 1000mg capsule fish oils, the ratio is 180mg epa and 120m dha. Some are more concentrated giving 300mg epa and 200mg dha for eg for a 1000mg fish oil capsule, these will be more expensive however. These are usually labelled as high strength or one a day fish oils, which is complete crap. If there was a one a day cap you wouldn't be able to swallow the big f*cka ;)

In most studies you'll find that excellent benefits came from epa/dha when they are using around 2-4g of each. In your normal fish oil, that is 10-20 normal fish oil capsules at least. So as you can see there is a massive difference between doses used in studies and off the shelf levels. If you want to take less then as said look at the higher strength ones, which are more concentrated, or look at the liquids, which may sound bad but they are pretty good.

In terms of toxicity all fish oils sold in australia are tested and have to pass levels for mercury, so i wouldn't worry too much, but if you are then go a practioner product such as the biouceuticals range or metagencis, as they do come from the better manufacturers over in europe. They're availabe at most good health food stores or a naturopath.

In terms of indigestion, many people do get that. Pretty random really, i can take 10 a day no worries but my mate gags off a couple. What you need to do is get enteric coated fish oil capsules. There are a couple available off the shelf(bio-organics for example) and the ones i listed above are also, and with that coating they won't break down till a long way down your gut, getting rid of the reflux/fishy taste. Again, they are bit more expensive due to the enteric capsules, but well worth it if you can't swallow normal ones.

And you'll get good fatty acids from eating fish, but no where near the levels listed above.

Now im not saying you need to take this much fish oil daily, for general well being eating fish and taking a few caps would do you fine. However all studies done in reducing cardiovascular disease, reducing inflammtion etc have been done using those higher doses, so i guess best is to do your own research if you are interested and make up your own mind, cause i know if some random started telling me to take 20 capsules of something that i was previously taking 2 off, i would definately do my research before doing it.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.  
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
