Nasho run, decided to take the lead on the way back up to Sydney on the return leg. A few turns in and BAM! out of nowhere this bunch of errant Deer jump out in front of me, one bouncing off the bonnet and making quite a dent on my ego/skyline. Had dropped back to about 80clicks but it still put a hurt on..

Not sure if its going to cost more to just fix myself or pay the excess and claim it on insurance..radiator was hissing and popping all the way home so obviously that needs to be replaced, new bonnet of course.

anything else i could have missed? do i go to a panel beaters or mechanics?

Ouch!, take it to the panel beaters and they fix it up. Looking at your photo and you saying that the radiator was hissing I would dare say you would have damage to your radiator support., bit hard to tell without seeing it in person but looks like your grille will need to be replaced, couple of your retaining tags on your headlights may be broken also so get the guy doing the quote to have a good look at them. Front bar have any damage from the accident?

Weirdly the front bar seems undamaged but with the excess being only 800 and all that other stuff needing to be done i might be better off going the insurance route.

thanks Terry, im starting late on monday so will hit a few local panelbeaters up. .also someone on Facebook has a bonnet for me, it is black though so will check Skyline spares as well for matching colours.

no idea how much it would be to fit a new radiator, should i go for one of the more expensive 'race' spec ones for all the upcoming track work?

found this on ebay...tempting for 800 clams..

yeah weirdly it didnt go above halfway on the temp gauge and the aircon was working fine, plenty of coolant in the ...er, coolant tank thingy though it was definitely leaking the green stuff all the way home..otherwise though the engine sounded and acted fine.

weird chemical smell notwithstanding.

oh and this bonnet is in brissie in SAU's own classifieds thread..$500 yay looks like i found my new bonnet, dont know why he says race only.

Holy crap! That was one hell of a shot not to hit anything but the bonnet. It's good that it didn't go into the windscreen and you got out of it uninjured.

From what it looks like it'll be bonnet, radiator support and radiator plus the a new pair of pants to replace the ones that got sharted.

yeah will grab a shot of the engine bay on my way to work, obviously im walking for the foreseeable. Looks pretty fine though other than bent support and radiator. LOL at new pants, it happened too quick for me to even get scared..

Royal national Park, entrance is just off the Princess highway/acacia drive.

Kirrawee to Stanwell tops.

hit the dear on the way back just a few kms from stanwell Park.

oh and heres some 'action footage'

had a deer jump out at me while cornering hard on the throttle (knew the road like back of my hand) on my built Fireblade back in the day, close call.

also once had a brown snake attempt a strike as I raced past him....

Non ADR aprroved bonnet means it doesn't have any steel framework within it.

There are some approved ones on the market, but I think cops might still defect it, even if it's engineered.

yeah according to the seller a Blitz sticker might save me from a defect notices as they are the only ADR approved CF bonnets for this model, might try it out for a while at least until i get hassled/cop a canary.

R33 needs all the help it can get as its a heavy beast..

Tangles, CSB man, CSB :)

the f**king snake, for real? i would have paid to see that..

I almost hit a deer aswell last week when i went down for a late night run, luckly i spotted it out quick and had a good 2 meters from the deer after heavy braking. The damage looks harsh mate hope you can sort it all out soon.

Last year my cousin hit a joey he was lucky enough to get away with just a craked front bar.

I wonder how a carbon bonnet would look in comparison to yours after the same impact.

I've been considering one for a while now but don't like to raw look of them on a black car.

And most I've seen painted black have ripples in them from the sun.

$500 for that one is awesome, and would look hot painted silver too.

Check your premium won't go up if you decide to go through insurance.

Even though it was a deer and not your fault insurance companies may assume you were speeding.

You know how they choose to analyse to their advantage.

$800 excess isn't worth it anyway for just a bonnet and radiator.

And if you change insurance companies within the next 3 years you'll have to declare the claim.

Furthermore if you have a non ADR bonnet and have another accident, they may decline the claim based on road worthiness.

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
