given I can put my hand on mone and almost get a burn off it - yes it is needed and I do agree with teh above statement. heat kills these things - I have a $4500 bill to prove it.

Yeah for sure I support that, they get HOT enough for cooling to be a concern. But what I'm wondering if the oil taking too long to warm up is a concern. My new radiator won't have the "cooler" (warmer) built in, and whether or not that is a concern on the cold mornings I'm not sure.

just plumb one of the pipes next to a radiator pipe (even touching it) and youll get a bit of heat transfer

if this theory works, i'de just be mounting the external cooler so it is physically touching the radiator core. or is this bad?(dont flame me it isnt how mine it lol)

thats how i have mine setup right now. im sure there isnt MUCH heat transfer, ideally youd want the pipework inside the radiator fluid, but this is the best option i had till my new radiator goes in

That's for a 11x7.25x0.75in unit which seems pretty similar in size to what everyone else is running. They have larger units but the fittings are larger too which would be a bit of a pain. If you're in a lot of city traffic they also have the same coolers with fans on them.

Chuckie this is exactly what I want. Can you still pick them up new from Mazda? Or do you need to find a second hand unit?

I was taking to a mate about this exact cooler last night; he reckoned Mazda charges $400 brand new. Supposed to be an incredibly efficient cooler for it's size.

if youre not moving there is probably no point in having a fan on a transmission cooler. once youre moving and you need the cooler to work, well, youre moving!

Unless you are sitting in peak hour traffic in summer.

But if you mount it above the reo, the engine fan will pull air through it anyway :)

I have one of these in my R33 with modded C4 auto.

But am now worried it wont be enough so am looking to get a 30 row oil cooler core and use that with a fan. I also have a transbrake and was told to box will see 120+ degrees within a few seconds on the transbrake.

    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
