SAU Nationals Road Trip

This is just an unoffical SAU cruise where we can enjoy the trip together and make a long trip much more enjoyable. The whole trip takes about 8 hours without stops so we will need to meet up early and leave strictly on time.

I've given about 15 minutes of buffer for each of the scheduled stops. The idea is that if you REALLY want a certain type of fuel or have to pee, then stop and meet us at the next location. We won't be stopping at each servo on the way to Yass. So between Pheasants Nest and Yass if you want to stop just meet up again at Yass. As long as you are quick and don't dilly dally you should be fine. We have two longer breaks - for meeting up in Yass and then a quick lunch & Pit stop in Albury.

What to bring:

Be sure to be prepared for a solid 8 hours of driving. Have brekkie before we meet up and have your sunscreen on - nothing worse than truck driver tan!

Also a good idea to have some drinks, snacks and a pack lunch as we won't have much time for stops on the road - just a quick potty stop here and there.

If you have a CB bring it along so we can chat along the way with an extra set or two of batteries. Most only last 4-6 hrs on a set. Or better if you have a ciggy adapter.

Canberra Convoy Catch-up:

great burgers? +1 for amending trip to include these...

great work Eric, are you still going to try and shoot this video along the way? how about some twisty bits thrown in?

just m 2cents, will be there either way.

Video of trip down & along the way - Yes!

Twisty bits, well it's a long day and if we want to take an extra hour for a burger stop (I'm in favor too!) then we won't really have time.

But I may ask a few folks to take a go-pro and "talk to the camera" a bit on the way down.

Last time we did a large drive to shepp (about 20 people) it took SO LONG because of stops and bullshit - my advice would be to do the touristy stuff on the way home if it needs to be done, that way anyone who's not interested can just keep on going and also there's no rush to be anywhere because the event is over :)

i just bought a driftcam pro, can also contribute a go pro HD and two handycams if that helps :)

really should go pay for my trackday tickets too for this thing..as for twisty bits, fair point with distance we are going. we are going to at least sit on 119km/hr on the freeway right? will save us at least X amount of minutes over the day...:P

I have to update the trip. New plan is to have lunch at the half way cafe instead of in Albury.

We'll still have a fuel stop in Albury but meeting point will change. I'll try to figure out our timing for you Humbla - but given the number of cars and length of the trip, I don't know how accurate will be. PM me your cell number and I can SMS you from one of our stops.

Ok so last night started to update but stupid windows update crashe my machine! ARGH!

Will update by the weekend.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
