Hey All,

Decided to post up a build up thread of my RB26.

Just to mention all of the work on this rebuild is done by GTRsean ( My house mate) who knows his sh#t when it comes to rebuilds! thanks.gif Sean

Where as I have never done this sort of thing before.... lol

So as this is underway I'll try to watch, learn and help where I can to get a better understanding as to how this all comes together.

A bit of history on the vehicle itself.

I am the second Australian owner of this 1993 BNR32 and have owned it for about 2 years.

It was purchased on the Gold Coast back in late 2009.

The previous owner had owned it for 6 years and bought it from a dealer.

Here is a photo of the ad for it.

and a photo of when I picked it up.

During my ownership it has seen a change cosmetically and mechanically.

the original plan for my car was to be a clean stockish JDM looking car that had decent power to come with it.

After months and months of driving the car eventually the engine block let go.

This was after I took it to SAU Drag Day this year and managing to put a crack in the 5th cylinder bore.... sleep.gif

^^A full rebuild first.

Lol!

So, as Sloane said, I'll be helping him get his car back on the road, and into the 10's , he has to beat my 12.001 quarter mile time first!

Car is being prepped for engine bay painting, and I made up a booth to spray in (hung up plastic). Primer coat is down, just needs a sand and the silver base coat will go on tomorrow.

Engine wise, it will get the full build treatment, but keeping in budget constraints.

A few things to note with the engine upon pulling it down:

It was the stock 86mm bore, it was just honed when the arias pistons were fitted.

When Sloane had the engine 'fixed' by the last workshop:

Engine out etc:

They fitted JUN oil pump, no oil restrictor was fitted, just the stocker 2.0mm.

They changed the big end bearings due to a knocking, put in stock nissan bearings, mains weren't changed, they were ACL's and had scoring, probably from the first build...

For all that $12,000+ roughly.

The only things that I won't be doing will be block machining, crank balance etc. I need to clean the cylinder head, then send it in to get checked and skimmed.

Yeah tell me about it :whistling:

Just finished painting the engine bay. Put the base coats of silver on then the clear coats after 20mins.

Damn moths and things trying to lick the paint!

Glad I got it done tonight, as I didn't want to paint Sunday as well.

Just have to de-mask some of the stuff.

I'll put up some better pics tomorrow.

    • Yes the gear for the R33/34 is different, it is red and has a different number of teeth. My part didn't come with that gear though, so I don't know how many teeth are on the red one. You'd have to reuse the 260RS/R33 gear, as long as it's not destroyed.   Haha, as unfortunate as that might be it was working fine for about the first 1500km I've had the car for now.
    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.
    • Where is the warning "That this thread is super old"   I just went into a 5 year old thread, went to do a reply, and couldn't see anywhere obvious a warning of it being super old
    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
    • Thanks GTSBoy, much easier to work with it now it's free!
