That would be a very low speed for such a high gear, in my Corona I only have to change into 4th around 60klms,  can do up to 80klms in 3rd then switch up to 4th.

The more I read this post, the more it makes no sense.

If I wanted, I can do up to 155km/h in 3rd then switch up to 4th. This doesnt mean I cant use 3rd at 30km/h!

Does the Corona have a 5th? From what you've said I doubt even 3rd gear is necessary on that car!

My Pulsar NEEDS 5th from a little under 60km/h onwards, she seems to struggle too hard otherwise  poor girl.

I thought having lower revs is better for fuel consumption. I noticed on my dad's 530i, on the dash, even at 60 it will shift to the highest gear (M5), lower revs, better fuel consumption?

Oh for those wondering... yes the donation from the first ten bottles is yet to go thorugh  Sorry guys... prank does know and i appologise for the delay... end of next week I PROMISE!!! I've had some rather large outlays of late and haven't been able to afford ANYTHING... including PULP ;) So 50 bucks will be donated to SAU by next friday, and i'll get prank to post up something when i do the deposit... thanks all... sorry for stuffing you's around...

And yep... i'm still donating 5 bucks from ever bottle sold!!!

OK, Time to post my results...

I added roil to both engine and gearbox.

Engine:

- after 100 - 200 km, I noticed it was actually harder to start the car... :(

- after 400km, it went back to how it was.... weird

- after 500km, I noticed the engine felt a lot smoother at low-mid revs

- after 700km, even better. Also noticed there is a lil more power / torque at lower revs, just enough to actually feel the difference.

- Oil pressure now is much more stable, and the car feels almost like new... hmmm

Gearbox: I've done about 300-400km with the stuff in

I have a notchy 2nd gear, and developed a crunchy 4th gear. I can avoid these however by leaving the gear selector in neutral for 0.5 sec before selecting those gears. With roil it is much less likely to happen... infact, when I think about it, I cant remember my 4th gear crunching lately, and I have been putting it straight in! 2nd is still notchy though...

This is what I expected of the product at best when I bought it, and it is what I got... so no complaints here. The most impressive thing to me, is the fact that my engine feels very smooth now.

The most impressive thing to me, is the fact that my engine feels very smooth now.

Very smooth engine... less friction, less wear and thus less petrol... which is what its all about... more so then any outright performance gains... they're just a bonus :D

Can't justify spending $100 protecting your $20-30-40k piece of machinery?  Why not?
I think he means the entire car ferni (correct me if I'm wrong)

B/c there is not as much friction in a gearbox, as there is say in a combustion engine, and if the manufacturer has specified that Castrol VMX-80 is suitable for my car at $35, then I choose to use that oil in my gearbox for my daily driven street car.

So how can I justify spending about 3 times as much when the product I use does it's job just fine.

I dont understand why people are so dead set on Redline for their daily drivers gearbox's and diffs..... You're just blowing your money away... but hey, to you thats just my opinion... If it were a track car, or something that were exposed to much punishment, then I would definately be looking at alternative oils more suited for that application.

In a combustion engine (where friction levels get much higher), I can see why people opt to go for oils that dont degrade as easily with heat and preassure.... and thats why I choose to add roil to my engine.... (based on claims that I now believe to be true) But IMHO, standard gearboxes, in a daily driven skyline, will be just fine with VMX-80.

Thats why not.

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
