Just did compressions on my r33 and got these rather low figures

1 - 105

2 - 108

3 - 105

4 - 97

5 - 110

6 - 106

Tried cylinder 1 again with some oil and got near 200psi, does this indicate my rings are worn to the $hit house ? it uses a bit of oil here and there aswell

Yeah its the lowest iv ever seen across the board in the few iv tested

How much is involved in changing the engine in an r33? taking into account i have acess to a hoist, full toolkit and a few extra hands

I think the gauge is pretty accurate because our compressor reg is set to 100psi and when i sealed the air gun to the gauge and shot 100psi threw it the gauge went straight to 100psi

Im pretty confident my engine is shagged lucky it still runs alright, my odo shows 117,000 im taking it that this is wrong or is it not unusual for this to happen to these engines at these kms?

Haha oh well that gives me hope that it will last until i organise another engine, Only had this car a few weeks and from the start iv always thought it was lacking power especially off boost well this explains it

My engine had 140,000kms on it and 50,000 of that was at 300rwkw.

Compression test came up at 160psi across all 6. It only had a 2psi variance.

Seems that car has had the shit flogged out of it. Surprised it hasn't blown number 6 yet.

Just thought id update

I was nearing the end of a 300km trip on saturday when all of a sudden there was a loud 'clunk' followed by lots of quieter "clunks"

First i though it must be bottom end related as this was unhealthy to start with but turns out my timing belt jumped a tooth on the intake cam and mashed a few valves

It only jumped one tooth though is this usually enough to smash valves ? now compression figures are around the 50psi mark with cylinder 4 showing absolutely nothing

Im replacing the whole engine it just didnt get here in time before this one shit itself

But your right because i plan to rebuild this engine and now i may have damaged the head

Lance: thats what i thought too so its got me buggered, im certain it was spot on before it happened

This is why you refresh a buggered engine - only costs a lot more when you have to start repairing damage. Especially bent valves.

yer damn that low compression putting all that extra strain on the timing belt.....:stupid:

1 tooth isnt anywhere near enough to mash valves, are you sure its only 1 tooth?

what about if the car has some aftermarket cams? wouldnt that make the compression drop , my first car had the cam reground and the compression fell from 150psi to 110psi,

that would explain it having fairly low km's and down on compression...

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
