Hey all, Im new here but been reading alot of threads, Sorry if this isn't the right place to post but thought it was appropriate. Well im in the market to buy a skyline, yes its a n/a don't judge me im going onto my p's, Had a look at this one on the weekend and seeing on the drivers side rear window it has skylinesaustralia sticker and wanted to see if the member who owned this is still around? Just wanted to see the kms he sold it and any major problems it did have, as it reads 114xxx they do look a tad off center and quite a bit of wear of the steering wheel and stick. Thanks for the help, link is below

If the odometer numbers are skewed, it may simply mean that the previous owner (in Oz or Japan) rather than the current owner has tampered with it.

In the adverts, he mentions that there was a previous owner he bought it from > so is there any paperwork?

Does the previous paperwork including auction papers from Japan mention anything about the odometer reading?

One really needs to go by other telltale signs as to whether or not the car is in good condition and has a good service history.

Check it over with a mechanic who knows Skylines > comp test and the rest

...and a panelbeater friend who can check for rust, previous panel removal, damage to wheel well, crossmembers, arms, struts, rails

On that note too: someone may have changed clusters at some stage. I know my cluster reads about 60,000km lower than what's on it, as it was changed to a GTR cluster with considerably less km on it. If I sell the car I'd tell someone that (and advertise it as such despite the odo reading), but if this guy didn't know that and had someone tell him a bunch of porkies before he bought it, he might genuinely think it has low km.

As Terry said: A better way of looking at the car is general condition, not so much the km. Check the engine bay, seats, floor (under the mats), under the sides of the car, etc.

Thanks guys, I asked for any papers or any service history and he only has his service history dating back to 100xxx, And i am judging the car on the general condition thats why with so much wear on the steering wheel and the gear shifter cover its making me suspicious, with the odo reading it wasn't to bad but with the other signs it got me thinking, So im still keen to find out who owned this skyline before the current owner as he didn't put the skyline australia sticker on it was already on when he bought it.

BM.67.EV is only a recent number plate. The previous owner probably had a different plate if the current owner has had it for a while. In fact, how long has the current owner had it for? Why is he selling it?

I can understand why you'd like to know who the former SAU owner was > more details and history.

With lack of former history, one needs to rely on one's brains trust (mentioned earlier) to check over if this car has had a long hard life.

Oh sorry forgot to add that history, He has owned it for a year (since last november) and he is selling to to get a ute for his work and to cart around his dirtbike which i find believable even though i didn't see a dirtbike but he mentioned he rides with a person ive seen and rode with so i think hes not telling any lies there. To be honest i trust the guy who is selling it, hes nice and since hes bought it has seemed to keep up on the service history even though the next service is 2000 km overdue which hes mentioned, my main concern in the person before him but hey you can never tell.

Very Rare 5 speed????

made me lol

hahaha I was going to say the same thing

Kilometres seem VERY low... it's a 17 year old car remember. I don't recognise the car sorry, but someone else might. Your best bet really is to get a full mechanical inspection.

Just make sure you get a mechanic that specialises, or at least knows skylines. There's a few recommended in the sydney area if you have a quick search of the nsw section. Just remember, all mechanics will say they can do it domokun.gif

Alright thanks hopefully somebody recognises it = More history, ill see if powerplay are able to have a look at it, If not will have to go to my local mechanic which i know hes trustworthy and won't screw me around. Thnaks

I wouldn't bother spending too much on getting it checked out, it's a sub $10000 r33 gts, I have bought 6 imports and I've only bought one lemon, and that was before I knew much about cars. I trust myself now to find the obvious andnot so obvious problems

That being said If was buying any GTR I would get my mechanic to come check it out with me

I don't think they are just taking anyone they don't know. They are just doing selective work so I've been told.

They are family friends so i might be able to get them to have a look but if its a hassle ill just go to the local mechanic, Which it's looking like it will be.

    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
