lilcrash
Lol. Someone came back . How far is your workshop from rydges at north Sydney? We have a credit for $300 to stay there from last year when we were supposed to come down but my wife got pregnant and we didn't feel comfortable flying. I'm considering driving down so you can do my tuning. lilcrash
Ok so the rings are all set. But I just realized that I have been using ft lb with the n-m setting an over tightened a few things Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/381350-thread-for-my-car-problems/page/24/#findComment-6240201 Share on other sites

The Mafia
Oh dear. If you can't tell the difference between foot pounds and nm you're screwed. Id get someone else to assemble... Also, there is a special tool that you use to file rings. How the hell did you do it? Bond
If his torque wrench is anything like mine I can see how the mistake can be made. 75coupe
I thought you were actually starting to do well... until. I wouldnt be sure of myself with a fresh built engine, Id get someone experienced to this stuff just so I know its done right, the money spent on engaging someones experience now will be money and worry saved in the long run... How were you going to drive down to sydney area to get the car tuned, would that mean you would be driving it all that way untuned? doesnt sound like a good idea to me... Bond
When i first got mine tuned i just drove it to the tuner with the wastegate flap unhooked so it wouldnt make boost and just drove it very easy. Your not going to do any damage like that. Also, there is a special tool that you use to file rings. How the hell did you do it? I read the wrong side of the torque wrench. It was only the oil filter mount and thermostat housing anyway. I'm getting it put on a dyno before I drive it to make sure the tune is safe for running it in. And I was going to hold the wastegate open for run in anyway. lilcrash
I did some research and used a 320 grit disc on a dremel. It's no different to paying $1300 for a ring grinder. wolverine
Gotta hand it to you. If I made mistakes like this there is no way I would make it public. It sounds like you are nearly there so fingers crossed the thing starts and runs nicely. scotty nm35
I was going to hold the wastegate open for run in anyway. Wat? You need pressure in the cylinder to bed the rings. I was thinking the same thing Wolverine, I admit I have made mistakes in the past but the less people that know them the better. lol. Bond
I'm pretty sure he means while he drives it to the tuner? A lot of selective reading on here. lilcrash
When asking for help its good for you all to know what has happened up until now. I've got nothing to hide. I admit I made some mistakes but it's all a learning curve. The only concern I have is that I may have a few dog hairs in my engine, I think everything else has worked out ok. Trust me I will be doing minimal driving until its tuned properly. With a baby on the way I can't afford to do this again. How long does it take to run in an engine on a dyno vs in the road. Liked if I get my tune checked, I might just go for a late night mountain drive. I'm thinking mt nebo and mt mee and mt cootha all in one night. That should get me my 200km before the first oil change. Ok kewl, il plug it and if there is an error il know why, this big earth terminal plate is driving me nuts too. Rolls
Hope you got it all right, no one really commented as pretty much everyone here pays a shop to do that stuff. Everyone is paranoid of doing it wrong, only need to stuff up one thing.
