Ok thanks guys!

And as far as good and bad catch cans, there just cans! as long as they dont leak how is one better then another?

There's a difference between a simple 'catch can' and a proper oil/air separator.

Size need to be at least 2Litres (or to suit regs if you're racing)

and some kind of baffle system to encourage oil and water to precipitate into the can and just let the gas go out (to atmosphere for track car or inlet for street car).

There is probably a viable off-the-shelf item, but I want mine to sit in a specific spot so custom is the way to go for me.

That said, I'm yet to actually find a decent looking off the shelf one... Anyone had much luck with that? I know RIPZ makes them, but I believe only on request?

im not to sure im trying to work it all out myself now but as i mentioned before would steel wool do the trick

the only way i can think it would work is say you have the inlet and outlet next to each other and have a partition/baffle in between made from fine steel wool so its like divided into 2 tanks inside by the steel wool so air and oil go in one side and just air comes out the other because the steel wool has caught the oil on the way through

If you had a square tank you could easily make baffles out of square pieces of metal which left a gap and alternate the gap left and right so that the stuff that comes in has maximum contact with the plates and the liquids drip down to the bottom of the tank .

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
