On the street none of our R33's leak fuel from the fuel caps but whenever we go to a Texi or Wakefield Park we have fuel spilling out of the cap.

We have tried three different caps to no avail and we only run the car with about half a tank of fuel when it is on the track so it is not over filled. On the street you can fill the tank to the point where you can see fuel just inside the cap and it never leaks. Whenever you open the fuel cap there is never any pressure build up issues so we are running out of things to try.

Where to from here - what are other people doing to stop this annoying problem? Are there specific caps that seal better for use in motorsport situations?

the cap should seal up so you get the pressure build up, so if you have tried different caps and still not getting the pressure build up and it's leaking then it may be the filler neck that is the issue. this has been covered many times over the years. generally with people getting a fuel smell. it is something to do with when they compliance them.

Thanks for the advice guys - I have one of the filler necks that has not had a compliance restrictor installed so if I use that one then this problem should no longer exist and I can refuel the car quicker with the larger filler opening.

yeah, that is another bonus. My race car was never complied so no bloody restrictor. I don't think they are required now days as leaded fuel is long forgotten

Now the problem is people putting unleaded in diesels... Lol

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
