when i first looked at the pic of the beanie on my phone i thought it was just a really bad mould of tne heatshield so i just checked.

Purchased some of the acl heatshield and gonna make up new heatshields during the week

There isn't and advantage it's just the way Nissan designed the throttle arrangement.

Every R34 NA RB25 I've ever seen has been that way.....

Having a working twin runner setup with the right lowmount turbo gives me almost 1000rpm faster spool on my highflow and thats without VCT atm as well..

anywho back on topic.. get the ACL stuff, take ur time and it will be great

Have you compared it with a properly R&D manifold that doesn't have the dual openings at all?

Your comparison is of that inlet being full open VS closed. That doesn't tell us if it is any better then a normal single inlet manifold.

well yavuz thinks its awesome and alot better than the standard one and thats good enough for me.. It might start to cause an issue above the 300-330kw mark though, then again if you were to start trying for more power than that u would need a highmount and thus this cant be used..

This took me 2 hrs with beer breaks, my expensive turbo beanie fell apart in 3 months, material cost $56 at super cheap, so far so good.

Oh sh*t i was just about to purchase one of those Beanies.... Assume its GCG? :O

Have you got any pics of how you supported the heat shield? What has the difference been between the temps with the beanie and with just the heat shield??? :huh:

To tell you the truth I have removed the heat shield, worked fine but was to shiny for my black engine bay, Im looking at getting one of the benies in the link from Revolution Race Gear, the quality is 100% better than the one I got from "torque in a shoebox", I spoke to them about my old one falling apart due to it not being engineered correctly, the R R G ones are constructed to take high heat, they make them for race cars.

As for fitting, I used the 2 rear power steering bracket bolts which held it fine.

what about some high temp exhaust paint on the heat shield, thats what i did with my acl heat shield, did the job perfectly.

ill have to find some, i used the heat shield to cover the shiny stainless manifold i was using, that cracked and i have gone back to the factory manifold, im going to use the old heat shield and make a new one but have not gotten around to it yet.

Yeah pics would be good... Very interesting... Would be good to hear more about temps with beanies vs heat shields and also with or without HPC coated housings? :D

Finding a quality beanie that will withstand the heat without falling apart is the most efficient and aesthetically pleasing option in my opinion.

Yeah, i wanted to run the beanie on mine, i want a black one without bright red writing on it.... The ones from Rev Racegear look the goods but will stand out pretty badly in the engine bay >_<

There is a new style of Beanie type thing out made from the heat sheild material but shaped like a Beanie, Rotormaster sent me pics of it -

I ordered one of these from PTP Turbo blankets in the US for less than half the price of the locally supplied items -

Apparently its not the blanket itself that fails, its the stitching that burns as its not rated to the high temps... If they are fitted correctly they are meant to be fine... We will see i guess!

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly. 
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
