Anyone got defected at Chapel st last night?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering has anyone from here got defected at Chapel over the weekend?

And if yes, what did u get defected for?

Police defected about 40 cars there last night. I thought they are suppose to be imporving the "orders" in that area after all those night club problems, but what does it got to do with modified cars?

Anyway, you never know what they will book you for these days.

I didnt get defected.....but i heard about the 'police blitz' on the news.

You're right i dont c how that is helping the nightclub stabbings in the area.

They say they'll be on the 'blitz' for 3 weeks....so its best to avoid the Chapel Street area for a while. ......unless u want a defective sticker ?!?!

that sould always apply to doing laps :)

i was there... saw heaps of cops, a few commodores getting defected and unhappy owners.

also saw the nest report today :D

chaps laps... the sadest of the sad.

id rather run naked thru a large plantation of lemon trees after rolling around on a bed of sandpaper...

well maybe not...

your informant is correct...

its filled with wankers with more expensive stereos than cars and 16yo slarts who will jump in ur VL at the sound of a cooler noise :)

nah come on i go there for dinner and my stereo isnt big, but then again i dont cruise up and down constantly like i've seen that golgo gtr do :P

all i want to do is get to a carpark, park, eat food, go to borders, and then go home, but getting to the carpark takes an hour in itself

Damn you Dox - that was our little secret :P

Anyhoo - from a local's perspective:

I had dinner at my mum's place in Armadale and went home via Prahran Coles at about 9.00pm Friday. Coming down Malvern Rd - I saw 3x patrol cars cruising. I turned left into Chapel and parked outside Coles (in Golgo) and while waiting at checkout saw 2x TMU, 1x Mercedes van, 3x bikes, 1x booze bus, some crazy personnnel carrier... and a partridge in a pear tree.

Headed along Chaps to Café Sienna - where I turn right to go home - and every second person on the street was a uniformed cop, there were 2x S13s and a VL outside KFC getting checked, a Lancer next to Coles getting checked and red/blue lights up near Jam.

Was out last night and heading home at 12.30am - saw many red/blue lights along Toorak & Chapel (was heading home from Richmond end) so went the long way around and went home via Williams Rd.

What an incredible waste of resources.

What were the police trying to do?

If you waste your time down chap street you deserve a big fat defective sticker! I have been down there a few times, was the most boring drive I had ever been on. Couldn’t wait to hit the princes again, at least you can drive on the HWY.

But yeah I agree I have no idea how Police wasting there time pulling over guys in expensive cars doing nothing wrong gives them a purpose. They would rather chase a guy with an apexi sticker rather than some dude with a knife :P

Heard about the blits on Friday morning, on NOVA. Warned my mate, who had just fitted a full spoiler kit to his RX7 series 6. But you think the fool listened, NOPE :). One day on the road and now it's back off :P .

Surely people can find better things to do on weekends. If they really want to be in a traffic jam, just go on the Monash during peak hours :).

I got pulled over near there last nite. i was heading home along toorak rd. i went past chaps and saw the numerous blue and reds flashing then one of them turned out of chaps onto toorak and pulled me over. I was bloody lucky the guy was a normal cop, not TMU. He checked my car, checked under the bonnet, got nothing illegal under there, no bigass zorst, pretty much didnt have a leg to stand on in terms of defecting me. I was praying he didnt know about power to weight, as im still on my p's. The cop took my license away for like 10 mins then came back and asked what i was doing in the area. i told him i was heading home from St Kilda and he just said "on your way". I tell you, i never breathed a bigger sigh of relief in my life!

I think ill be avoiding the area for a few weeks until this blitz has cooled down.

whenever i have to go to jam factory or a cafe or something i either take mum's lancer or drive on parallel roads so when i go to chapel im on there for 10mtrs if that and straight into car park

safest option, or just disconnect your bonnet clip

some crazy personnnel carrier...

That was a RIOT van, I didnt see any riot's personally but you never know

I almost always go down to chapel for dinner / coffee etc on the weekends, including last night. I dont actually grace the chapel st tarmac with my car - i just park "nearby" and watch all the clowns get defected - some ask for it, some dont. The only difference this weekend is that people were warned - Herald Sun, MX, The Age, NOVA, FOX and 7,9 & 10 news...

I also heard today on Nova that they got over 100 cars, between Prahran, St.Kilda and any other area they were 'targetting'. They defected 37 cars just on chapel friday night!

There is no yellow sticker on my car :P but i did witness a few get done.

really? man i'm hanging with the wrong crowd...time to go to chaps.

oh hang on i havn't got a VL :D

They are common but they are no VL, thats just down right stupid! When Skylines are worth $5K, and carry a Holden badge then you can call them a VL. Plus have you ever driven a VL Turbo? They go like shit, handle like shit and most of all look like shit! I own an VL with an RB25DET as well as my Skyline and there is no comparison LOL

    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
    • Hi, i’m converted my r34 4dr auto to manual but need help with gearbox wiring. There are bunch of wires no idea which one for speedo drive, neutral, reverse can anyone help me. IMG_6860.mov
