I want to attempt to do the 100,000km service on my own, but I can't find a D.I.Y thread here on the forum

If there is one, could someone please link me to it, or make one so i can follow it, with pics too?

I basically need a guide on changing the timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner, crank and cam seals. The fluids i can manage on my own, but it's just the rest i need help with.

Its not all that hard really.

Remove radiator

Remove Belts + Fan

Remove Front covers (Cam gear cover)

Release tension from Cam belt (think this is where you remove the Crank Pulley), remove belt

Remove idlers + water pump + replace.

Reverse

It's not so bad once you get in and start it. Just have to remove alot of stuff

Ive done it all before. I can do it without pictures. If you aren't far from Parramatta, I can probably give you a hand. I won't do it for you but I can tell you its actually quite fun and rewarding knowing you done a timing belt. I do suggest you DO NOT use a gates belt. Noisy and you need to get it perfect tension or you will cop horrible noise. I done mine twice. I also didn't change the cam seals. My belt was already changed along with the cam seals when the clutch was done, but I done the belt anyway because one of my bearings was noisy(over tensioned belt maybe?). Source your bearings direct from Japan, its much cheaper.

You can do it without pictures. I had the manual for it somewhere, the only thing its good for is knowing how much torque to torque shit up to. Yes you need a torque wrench. Manuals and people suggest you remove your radiator. I find this pointless, although you are doing your major service, you probably should. Makes life easier and you can clean your radiator.

I can dismantle my car in about 25 minutes, change the belt in about 5 - 10 and have it all back together all in about an hour maybe 2 hours time depends how much dicking around you gotta do.

First time I done it took about 4 hours. Next day because I had everything at hand and knew everything, started 9am finished 9:45 lol.

The harmonic balancer is a bitch to get off. Even with a very tight hand brake and 4th gear holding it, it was still a tough mother f**ker. People say you can shred gears doing it this way, but hundreds have done it day in day out and never had an issue.

if he isnt doing a water pump @ the 100k interval, its not a matter of IF it fails, its a matter of WHEN. Its a cheap part, replace the damn thing and flush uout the system, new EG in the system and your car will love you for it

Do you guys make your own pullers that fit with the radiator still in? Could use the starter motor undo the bolt. Never tried it myself though.

I made my own, 5mm steel plate 3 holes and one nut welded in the centre. Worked a treat.

I changed my belt 20000km after it was already done. I fitted in a new water pump because I had one. I was just saying that if he was just doing a belt and had a new pump in there and fresh coolant, that he could avoid losing the coolant because it us possible to do the belt with the radiator in there

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful         
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
