s213b
hi, ive got a 1989 r32 gtst-4, rb20 shat itself, so ive sourced a s1 stagea rb25 motor (apparently same as s2 r33 rb25 - can anyone clarify?) i know that the ecu the motor comes with is 'un-nistune-able' (again - clarification please?) so my question is, can i get an r33 s2 standard ecu to run my AWD system or will it just throw fault codes ??? Thanks heaps for your help - anything youd like to add in regards to info/ help with the conversion would be greatly appreciated Josh. 045HOW
Dont know the answer to your question about running the AWD but yes a standard 33 ecu is not nistuneable, but you can nistune it using either a Z32 ECU(Best option as it utilises VCT) or an R32 ECU(Worst option as you will need a standalone VCT controller to run VCT). Bronx
awd is run off the attessa ecu in the boot. so your ecu will be fine, just make sure its the right ecu for the right engine. s213b
4show - standard r33 ecu is not nistunable?? *enlighten me, whats VCT? so i could use my standard rb20 ecu and nistune that? (would be best for me because obviously i already have one) Bronx - so s1 stagea rb25 (apparently) = s2 r33 rb25 so should be no problems there? ive dont engine conversions twice on my old s2 rx7 (granted was carbie ) but i hate having surprises / headaches midway through a build... cheers guys Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/391881-r32-gtst-4-with-s1-stagea-awd-rb25-ecu-options/#findComment-6236807 Share on other sites
045HOW
If the engine is not a NEO then as far as i know yes the standard ecu can't be nistuned. VCT is variable cam timing. If you wish to nistune then you should bother to source a Z32 ecu. KiwiRS4T
Best to use your loom as the Stagea loom only suits the stagea ecu. Variable cam timing will give you more power in the midrange so its definitely. worth keeping. Your stock R32 ecu won't do so you need to either get a Z32 ecu (you need to read up on this to get it right) or get some kind of window switch to run the vct. Or if you have the Stagea ecu and you have a manual gearbox you can stick an R34 Link or Vipec in the manual ecu case (which is what I have).
