Apart from Unique Autosports does anybody else make the brake caliper adapters to go from 296mm to 324mm rotors?

These are to use the stock GTST calipers with the larger GTR rotors (going to use the 2-piece ATTKD rotors I think).

If not I guess I'll just have to fork out the $350 for the adapters.

I recommend people ring a few machine shops and get some hourly rates from them. Unless you have a mate with the tools required who will do it for a case of beer, you will be in for a rude shock. $350 is pretty good value.

I will guess and break it down. $100 in material inc wastage which you have to pay for. That leaves $250 for labour, which is $125 each. So you think it can be done in less then an hour each...inc anodising?

Sure they are not cheap, but they are reasonably priced and having done these adaptors loads of time myself....you will be hard pressed to do it cheaper and get a known end result. My opinion only :cheers:

You're looking at it wrong. These are not being made as one offs. They are made in bulk. Maybe not huge numbers, but enough of a batch size to make the manufacturing more efficient. So on that basis, the material value in the adaptor itself wouldn't want to me be more than $25, including wastage. The fasteners are only going to be <$20 as well. Machining won't consume an hour each, and anodising is a batch process.

At $350/pr retail they are hard to justify. It would be hard to make them yourself at any decent saving, but that's not the point.

And I know what I'm talking about. I get stuff fabricated all the time, out of much more exotic materials than a bit of steel or 4041 (think inconel and other high temperature alloys - much harder to machine for a start). I know what one off cost and what you can save when the shop can tool up to do a run of them.

Diffence in opinion :) I will add what quantity do you think these are getting made in? I hear what you are saying, but it is likely to be quantities less then 10. Most shops would try and minimise the amount of dollars they have caught up in inventory.

Anyway, its a mute point. My perspective is if you are a business then you price a product to what the market will pay. And the average punter wont be able to do it much cheaper. Hell most punters wont be able to install the kit let along fabricate their own.

The beauty of forums are that you can learn so much and follow the DIY path. If you think its a rip and can do it cheaper then go for it. :thumbsup:

There is a guy (too much boost) selling a kit like this from SBS at the moment for a song at $500 inc rotors, calipers and mounts. just go buy that and sell your current calipers to an S13 owner. My thoughts are the 280mm kit is superior to the 296 kit anyways.

Yep $350 is probably too much for me. I thought there were other people on this forum who might have access to same/similar items for less.

Indeed you price at what the market will pay in order to get the best return. I don't think I will be paying $350 for these but I might (nahh...probably not). oohhh wait actually......meh.

$350 is a steal. By the time you mess around with someone machining them up and finding out they don't fit correctly blah, blah, blah...if they bolt on with simple cutting of backing plate then its a good deal. Many of the cheaper R33 kits are 3 piece brackets and that in my eyes is pretty nasty compared to the one piece UAS ones

They won't be a straight bolt up on an R32 GTR; you'll need a 340mm rotor.

If you have Z32 or R32 GTSt calipers, as std they run 280mm rotors.

R33 GTS25T and R32 GTR calipers have longer lugs to suit the larger diam 296mm rotors so if you were to use those brackets with R32 GTR calipers then the fit would be an absolute abomination, like posted above they are more suited to a 337-340mm rotor

how do u come to this conclusion ? "Abomination" ? I dont understand a few ppl i know have these on there cars and theyre fine 12.75 inch equals 324mm rotor which is r32 gtr vspec disc size or 350z standard rotors ppl want cheap and effective i dont understand where u get 340mm from

oh n one of those has a z32 300zx with them n theyre nuts

Travis, you're completely missing the point. The Autosport ones ONLY suit calipers that came on cars with 296mm rotors. The cheaper ones from eBay are designed to suit calipers from cars with 280mm rotors. If you look carefully at the two different adaptors you will see that they are completely different design. The cheaper ones just push the 280mm legged caliper out to the 324mm rotor position. It does that radially. The Autosport one pushes the 296mm legged caliper out to the 324mm rotor position also, but because there's not enough room to do this purely radially, the adaptor also has to move the caliper around circumfrentially a little to provide room for both sets of fasteners. THIS is the giveaway that tells you you're not looking at the same thing. If you apply the 280-324 adaptor to the 296mm caliper, it will push it out even further than the 324mm position. About 340mm in fact. It is important to remember that the Z32 uses the same sized caliper as the R32, not the R33.

You do understand that the calipers used on an R32 GTR ARE NOT the same as as an R32 GTR V Spec?

These adaptor will only work with R32 GTS or 200SX Calipers; the ones that go with a 280mm x 30mm rotor. This is how you get to a 324mm rotor. These brackets are designed to work with a 324mm x 30mm 350Z Brembo rotor; the offset of the GTR Brembo 324mm x 30mm rotor is unsuitable, and also more expensive.

Applying the same dimensions (a 44mm dia increase) using an R32 GTR Caliper (which uses a 296mm x 32mm rotor) ; you end up with a 340mm rotor.

This is the last post I will make on the subject; You can argue if you like, you can even go and buy the brackets. In fact, I encourage you to do so. thumbsup.gif

You will then discover that; surprise surprise, they don't fit.

I have no problem with cheap, effective improvements, but this will not be one.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
