Bought myself a Smoker last weekend, once i season it and get some quality wood, Hickory and apple im looking for. I will be doing ducks, a Pulled pork and some Italian snags over the xmas break and then I'll invite my SAU fave restaurant buddies over

FYP

Oh Terry there's so much good Chinese food out there it could be a fulltime job.....oh wait =D

don't open your big mouth. only tell your trusted friends who you want to feed well.

actually, open it, because then they might reopen their west ryde place that burnt down/up a month ago - that's the reason I haven't had it for ages, because I live in hornsby and bankstown (original store) is WAY TOO FAR for me - so west ryde was PERFECT, obviously until it burnt down. so sad.

so yezz.. I went to hot rocks.. turns out I've been there a few times hahaha... I looked up the address and was like I swear I've been there...

Yes the chicken is more moist, yes the tum (garlic sauce) is better, but the pickles... err... lol.... I do however rate it :)

My mate also ordered a chicken roll ontop of his 1/2 chicken.. and FUARK they add chips into the roll, winner wiiner chicken dinner

YES johnny hot rocks are total winners at EVERYTHING! chips in the garlic sauce is THE BOMB...i could eat that and nothing else HAHA.

and yes the pickles are errrrrrrrrrr i never touch them, feels like a waste but seriously they're so salty, would rather have fresh cucumber or something UNPICKLED.

I think that's the taouk wrap with chips in it haha... Man wrap + 1/2 chicken that's beast at hot rocks. I can barely even finish a wrap alone lol.

Hot rocks #1 but far out... gonna go this weekend i hope .. best food ever lol

Is that a plan forming chris? :D

Ribs and Rumps in Manly is awesome if you want a massive steak/ribs meal.

Aubergine on DeeWhy beach does a good menu, Tuesday's is $30 for 3 courses. Pretty cheap.

Braza at Newport is awesome all the time. Chronic meat sweats ensure shortly after though.

I went to Hot Rocks in West Ryde with the GF but we found the place was shut and had its windows boarded up. A quick Google search revealed the place was heavily fire damaged in October 2012. Looks like it will be closed for some to come.

I guess we'll have to head to the one in Bankstown to see what all the fuss is about - I don't see how it could be better than El Jannah (as good as, maybe; better? we'll see) but I'm looking forward to being proven wrong.

i'm fairly sure we've mentioned why it's better. but to update you:

1. chicken is marinated

2. chicken is not burnt

3. garlic sauce is better

4. for the west ryde store at least, it is MUCH CHEAPER than bankstown and el jannahs.

and yes they had a fire a while ago.

I've created a Google spreadsheet to record the restaurants mentioned.

The spreadsheet can be found here: https://docs.google....QTNDMXFuRVhLZmc

Login details are:

Email: [email protected]

Password: abirdinthehand

Please make sure when you enter details to do so in a way that lets people filter and/or sort the details in the spreadsheet.

Remember to log out when you're finished so others can edit the spreadsheet. :)

I'm looking forward to trying out some of the recommendations from this thread :)

thought to revive this thread with a great charcoal chicken place i frequent;

Charcoal House Cafe

Shop 5, 1 Hill End Rd

DOONSIDE, NSW, 2767

corner of Hill End Rd and Doonside Crescent

http://www.truelocal...e-cafe/doonside

$21.00 gets you a whole chicken, pickles, garlic sauce, family chips and bread - and best of all theres no charge to eat in, great place to be if u a.] can tollerate doonside and b.] like peace and quiet when you eat

i always up-size the pickles and garlic sauce to the family size and grab an extra bag of bread, total cost is still only $26

great small family business serving great food at a reasonable price - highly reccomended for anyone living out in the west

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
