I'm looking for a set of tyres for my GTR and having trouble finding tyres in the size I want. I decided on Kumho Ku36's after hearing and good things but I can't find them in 255/40/17. What are some other good sub-$200 high performance tyres and where can I get them from?

Cheers!

Going off that list the RS-R is probably the go, i had KU36 but will trying the RS-R next as people say plenty of good things about them :)

Federal 595's are $130 a corner on eBay which seems pretty cheap. Are they a decent performance tyre? I run semi slicks for the track which I have an abundant supply of (not DOT approved unfortunately) so I just want a set of decent street tyres which are inexpensive. Any better options in that price range?

255/40/17 are actually more common, however 245/40/17 seems to be the recommend tyre size for GT-R wheels.

St George Tyres are pretty good, or even Taleb tyres.

I've used KU36 in the past and they are fantastic, but not so much in the wet & cold. The KU31 "seem" to be better for normal wet/cold days than the KU36s

255 is probably unnecessary on a 9" wide. I have 245/45/17 Dunlop z1 on my 33 gtr standard wheels (17x9 +30)

The cross section width of z1 is 9.7" and 9.6" for RE11 and AD08, don't recall what it is for KU36.

Oh and look at all the choices with 245/45/17!

He has an R32 GT-R though, you'll find that 255/40R17 is a better diameter for his car then the taller 245/45R17 (comes out with 225/50R16 from memory).

Still tossing up also mate,

Never been a fan of federal, but they seem good enough to run based on a lot of peoples comments and reviews...

they do a 275-40-17 for $155 a tyre. might be overkill but on 9.75'' wide rim, it should be good.

they do 265 , 255 in this size as the other guys have mentioned.

i guess the only way to properly find out is to run them yourself.

My Hankooks RS3 255/40 17 are great, tread wear of 120, nice and grippy straight away, they are a high performance tyre, long lasting taxi tyres should stay on taxis.

After about 5000 road klm and 3 track days they are at about 40% left.

Will defiantly buy again from tire rack.

The Dunlop Direzza star specs I had prior to the Hankooks were good but took slightly longer to come on I felt, but they did have a tread wear of 200 I believe so if longevity is something your looking for I would go the Dunlop.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
