andersanders
Hey ! Title says it all really... What do people think the best set up is for air intake? I want noise and gogo ! PN-Mad
The stock box is as good as it gets really. Open up the front of it. Proven to flow 350rwkw. Still legal. Stay away from oiled filers, as they may effect the Afm. Your first port of call should be the exhaust, incl dump pipe. Have a search and you'll see some threads. The search function works well. Welcome and enjoy your stay! bigkevracer
Isn't OP in Adelaide? If so, pods are legal in SA. Jury is out on performance, but I have tested higher AFM voltages on pod than air box. That said, Alex is right, air box doesn't seem to be a restriction at 350kw. In terms of noise, I've had a few people comment on how good the induction noise is on my car with pod. Noise is better with pod than without. joshm35
Ive had a oiled k&n for 2 years now with no problems. If you want sound plug a blower into your air filter pipe lol. Sydsyd
I took off the lower back part of the airbox, makes a gruntier (if that's a word) sound...costs nothing Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/411898-best-air-filter-set-up-for-noise-and-performance-nm35/#findComment-6587244 Share on other sites
iamhe77
Get an R2C filter (they only do pods), get lots of air to it (use the factory snorkle and direct air from the lower section of your front bar) and shield it off from the engine bay. Why? Filtration without losing efficiency. You won't find better. For "go", get a turbo back exhaust. For sound, get one of these: http://www.soundracer.se/?p=98 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/411898-best-air-filter-set-up-for-noise-and-performance-nm35/#findComment-6587294 Share on other sites
bigkevracer
AM Performance are also working on two different intake pipe options: one for those keeping the airbox, and one for those not. andersanders
Just took the cover off the box. Sounds awesome! Also discovered it has a decent k&n so that's s bonus. No 'flutter' but sounds ballsy! scotty nm35
Probably... That ghey flutter noise is actually turbo compressor surge, it will most likely shorten the life of your turbo... PN-Mad
Probably... That ghey flutter noise is actually turbo compressor surge, it will most likely shorten the life of your turbo... Prove it pigeon FTW! ztuzuzuzuzuzuuzuzuz ps... its not actually compressor surge, IMO the surge that kills turbos is the WOT surge that is totally different. But it is a kind of surge. Better off just to leave your BOV alone. scotty nm35
It is still compressor surge numbnutz. It causes the shaft to change speed erratically and load up causing twisting of the shaft. It can't be good for bearing life. I get surge on boost, my GTX hasn't given up yet, although it has surge slots to help take the load off the compressor. PN-Mad
Your right- HKS know nothing when they didn't put a BOV in the kit.... plenty of blown up turbs from WOT surge- haven't seen one blown up from pigeon. But I do understand where your coming from. Sounds like OP needs a Scotty dump pipe and exhaust- and not "flutterz". bigkevracer
I spoke to Turbosmart about the flutter after I put in the dual port BOV, and they told me that there is a lot more of it when you run a pod for some reason. Apparently there is no alternative spring I can run to avoid it because I'm already running the stiffest spring wound on as hard as possible. The effects of it all seems to be conjecture, I haven't seen any proof one way or the other. It could shorten the life of the turbo, but then again the stock turbo is a ticking time bomb anyway.
