Hey does anyone know, i'm in the middle of complying a 4 door R32 GTS-T. Are the rules for side intrusion bars the same? Do you have to get bars just for the front doors, all doors or don't have to get any at all? Dunno maybe due to the pillar between the front and rear doors means that you don't need them? I'm guessing it's the same for all 4 door vehicles so has anyone who recently complied a 4 door vehicle needed to install intrusion bars?

im in SA and complying a four door r32. all doors need bars, high mount brake light, fuel filler and unleaded tag, replace tread, baby seat points, return to stock struts, silencer for exhaust, replace pod for air box, return to stock steering wheel and most anoying is taking off the heavy tinting on the back 3 windows. i have a fun weekend ahead of me *nods*

I'm surprised your engineer wants the stock struts!?!?! he should be able to certify what you have got (I've got ZEAL coil overs in mine and they were fine!!!)

He also certified the pods! talk to your engineer....

Can i just say you guys are getting ripped off in the eastern states!!!

it cost us 150 bucks for an engineering certificate in SA...

so realistically you can get it all done for like 600 bucks!!! There are guys who offer it for that price over here!

all the best

Sure the certificate may cost $150 bux.. it's about that here... but in SA do you need to install intrusion bars in each door? install a fuel restrictor cap, change all seatbelts, and the other minor things? Each of these items is several hundred dollars each.

mate, you have it easy with the engineers cert! best I could get over here either Sydney or ACT was $450!!! would have cost me bugger all if I got it for $150...

Side intrusion bars are overrated...lots of compliance places just weld in square metal tubing and get them ticked off. things like fuel filler neck,..that is where you are getting ripped off also. Those things are like 30 bucks and then all they do is knock them into place..shouldnt cost two hundred bucks! and some schmuck payed 200 dollars to get his mirrors done.!!! what the?> take them down to a glass place and get them made up for like 20-30 bucks and glue them into place!

anyways im no expert but you guys are getting done i think

I agree with Luke - anyone paying $200 for mirrors and fuel filler reducer are being robbed!!! I didn't haev to do my mirrors, and the engineer gave me a sticker for the fuel door! no restrictor needed!

restrictor is needed in some states.. rather than just a sticker. Trust me, I tried. Like guys you can go on and on about "how everybody is getting ripped off" but some requirements are MANDATORY that are not in some states.. and of course how thorough your engineer in accepting things is another matter.

but there are different requirements for different states which require different costs (but no not $200 for mirrors).

JAS .. seat belts are very expensive yup for what they are. If you are lucky you can get some of a wrecked R32. I got mine for $100

Every State has different requirements. Perhaps a list of these requirements can be tabulated for each state and put in a new thread and made a sticky? It will save on confusion and the same questions be asked over and over.

blacky (or any West Aussie in the know)

If anyone knows about the updated 15year requirements (since april 4 2004);

Is a engineers cert. required in WA? I have been told that it is required, but you can take it over the pits and they will do the eqivilant of an engineers check/report if you don't have one for an extra charge.. (maybe this is only for stock-ish cars)?

Thread's gone a bit dead, but i was wondering if a particular engineer was needed to sign off the compliance, or if a normal engineer (mod plater in qld) could do it?

Hi Neil

Anyone that is an automotove engineer will be able to certify your car and the mods. when you contact someone about it, just tell them what you require and the level of mods that you have.

    • It turns out that Setrab make a fan specifically for the oil cooler which is great and I've installed it with minimal swearing. I removed my 2x 12in push fans from the front of my aircon condenser and wired them into this. My main thermo fans kick on when I use the aircon anyway and would effectively already be working as puller fans through the condensor which is infront of the rad. The push fans (understandably) didn't really do much in the config they were previously in so now they're out. Now we're on to the "Oil fan doesn't really do much either!". Yes I'll duct it next if it does nothing in heavy use which it shouldn't. But hey, the object exists and fits great and is cool. Let me have this. The car is still in the "do my fittings leak oil now? do my wheels actually rub?" phase. I did a spirited drive on them and didn't hear or feel anything. Then I got back home and noticed there were grind marks on the inside of the rims, though I couldn't see where they were touching I got out the grinder and attacked the suspects. Note: I do not know how to use a grinder. Then I realised I had dragged my new rims across my concrete driveway before I did this drive. I didn't think I had damage at that time when I briefly looked...... but remembered this occurred after I did all the angle grinding. The grinding on the wheels in some very specific spots. It's not around the whole rim for example, which lines up with dragging it across concrete more than hitting a suspension component for even 1 full rotation. So everything is currently painted and taped up and I need to test it some more to see if it really IS rubbing, but from inside the car it doesn't feel like it is. In other news I attempted to do a before and after comparison of the heads/cam upgrade thing. Dynos lie, everything is in different measurements. Here is the data from the sandown back straight. Car go faster than before. Vroom vroom.
    • Here's my base ignition. +3 correction to redline when shooting water/meth which is always on. Looking at my old ignition table, I should be able to add 1-2 degree's next time I'm on the dyno.  Let me know your thoughts.
    • Given what I know now - same haha, but this was 12 years ago with second hand 740cc Nismo injectors in my S15 daily, I was too busy hunting elsewhere for the issue to even look at the injectors, running through some cleaner was a happy coincidence haha
    • Not a terrible idea. But if I ever had concerns that my injectors were sufficiently dirty to be causing me a problem, they would be out of the engine and onto the actual injector cleaner/testing bench.
    • Run some injector cleaner through it I had a similar issue that plagued me for months, even tried replacing the cat. If one or more injectors are blocked up the ecu sees ping so pulls timing and makes the tune rich overall, you'll see black smoke coming out of the exhaust and like me assume it's running rich but it could only be one or two cylinders  $10 bottle of injector cleaner and the next time I hit boost it pumped out a huge plume of black smoke, cleared the blockage and then ran great, if that's not the issue it's only a cheap thing to try haha
