Like Deca? Wish It Were Closer? Wish No Longer! New Skid Pan In Melbourne!

Recommended Posts

RTR - 'Road Track Rally' have delivered...... baller style.

Yes, you're seeing correct. A 9000 sqm (i believe) skid pan VERY soon to be available in western Melbourne. Prob 30-45min'ish for those of us on the civilised side of Melbourne :D

Slightly smaller than DECA overall, but i think maybe a little longer... not 100% sure

Not April fools, this is full legit, ready to rock early 2013!!! Bring it!

oooooooooooooohhhhh yeeeaahhhhhhh.........

Like DECA?

I see no back track

As said in the other thread (might have been wasteland), hopefully it doesn't go the way of Drag Tag's skidpan that ended up having the Law sitting out front of it all the time. Although it wasn't built as a skidpan given the main business is Forklifts... So council likely don't know it's going to be used for "that"...

oh yeah, no back track, but 'like DECA' i meant is in the 'affection' variety, not necessarily by it's exact make-up. But still, great to have an autocross venue close by - google tells me 45mins

public events? as long as there is an event you can join, then that's all we need. SAU DECA aren't exactly 'public' events, still need a CAMS/ASAA (or aasa whatever) license. I'm guessing it will be along those lines

i'm sure this is a multi-purpose venue, but will cater for motorsport events.

If anything, this will be a good compliment for DECA, you can do these events close-by but if you want a day mixed with some tight track action, you can go for a DECA.

hahaha, yes Grant, no armco :D

Ye that's cause it's all 100km/h sans the Westgate section

It's still 25mins from the CBD regardless was my point, as it's being claimed as "10mins", which is just rubbish as it takes 10-15mins to get the the WGB from the CBD - i do it regularly

this isn't a workshop war thread, not that there is one going on, this is just to let you know we all will have a DECA (skid pan) sized facility available to us for autocross events. That's it, we should be all grateful for having motorsport facilities closer to us... isn't that what we've always called for? Yes it isn't another metro track like Sandown, but good luck that happening. And no there isn't a back-track like DECA, but it's still potentially a great facility to have some safe fun, that's pretty easy on the car.

10-20mins whatever, all i know is that more close motorsport venues the better, no?

You must drive slow I regularly do point cook / hoppers crossing to city in 15-20 mins

    • Interesting. I still think they are the result of impact damage somewhere along the line, but clearly lightning has stuck thrice! I've still got the original ones on my race car and they have had some hard work.
    • Just had this happen to me too.  R32 GTR.   Also broke "just before going out onto the track" - someone up there is looking out for us... Very scary since I was about to do a narrow street course with zero run-off and curbs everywhere. Many people on here upgrading to billet uprights and R35 bearings?   Or buying new OEM knuckles?  I am not keen to replace with another s/h 30 year old fatigued part.
    • Top off with distilled water and see what happens. If you keep losing coolant then you know to start looking.
    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
