Yeah you're right Scotty. Double checked my figures today, and the injectors are maxing out. The FPR will get me out of the shit short term but I'll be getting it tuned shortly. You get the email from the HKS guys about the tune?

No mate, no emails about the HKS...

So Cihan should disclose all his tuning secrets so other tuners can copy his work? It won't happen... Too much time has been invested by him into the VQ25det now to just give the information away, I think my car has over 200 dyno runs on it already...

Not far to drive over Ryan for peace of mind...

Its not, but it becomes a pain in the arse to go back and forth every time I need a tune. Would rather work with someone local who is good and is interested in spending the time. There are a couple who have expressed interest, one with their own dyno.

It's interesting how this happens; your guy (and you) had to go through the learning process, and now there is more demand; the guys who put it in the "too hard basket" suddenly need a hand.

I don't doubt you have plenty of your own cash tied up in the entire process Scotty; no way 200+ dyno runs is a cheap process.

If your guy is good and interested; that is the ideal combination!

Maybe it would be worthwhile him investing his time and effort, so that he can hold himself up as one of only a small number of tuners that can work on the M35.

If you build it; they will come.

Exactly Dale, and that 200 runs isn't including the Emanage learning process before it.

I do honestly hope there are other tuning options and tuners in the future for the VQ25det, and if the guys at Nistune finally get on board we will all benefit. The HKS software is the best option available to us at the moment but there are so many things I would like to adjust that it doesn't have the maps for...

Agreed. Surely if your tuner is interested and is competent he doesn't need his hands held by someone that's done all the work...

Not for free anyway!

My tuner doesn't Jethro, it's the HKS guys who needed more information. The information they needed I don't think we could get from Scotty's tune anyway, as he's running non standard injectors.

Andrew now has these for sale on his web site: http://amperformance.com.au/product/miscellaneous/nissan-m35-stagea-performance-cold-air-intake-pipe

I will hopefully have a group buy price shortly for all those people who've contacted me.

  • 3 years later...

So after installing, good increase in response and power.

Need less throttle to get the car rolling and coasting on legal speeds.

Car seems to have more rasp in exhaust note and engine feels slightly less smooth in the rev range.

Does this sound normal ?

cheers

Wow what a difference the intake makes on stock tune.

I've put the power duct cover back on and blocked half the stock snorkel to reduce airflow until my tune.

Back to normal, engine smooth, better idle and less noisy.

How's that for home tuning !

Block off the f**king intake...

So is it possible this intake could cause the ECU to change timing ?

It feels like a late spark or something.

Still surprised I have rough idle and engine rev.

Blocking off power duct has helped a little but not much.

Just had another thought.

Maybe air is coming in through the join, which is after the AFM.

There's no physical seal on these, just metal to metal.

Gonna try and get a clamp around it.

A clamp probably won't help; but a solid application of tape around the join will tell you if you're on the right track.

  • 1 month later...

Yep these intakes DO leak between the middle join.

When it's fitted the two halves are pulled out a fair bit stretching the spring.

After doing a smoke test, it was visible.

So had it removed and sealed with silicone.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
