They aren't too bad but don't let servicing be a deciding factor in purchasing.

I've seen alcons and many other brands literally black from heat and they are still perfectly serviceable internally.

The callipers will outlast your ownership of them if they are kept in working order.

Yep. Here they are on mine (Using GTR JOEY's LM's at 18 x 9.5 + 12). They don't really fit under a R34 GTR wheel. Yes the wheel will go on, but there is so little room that little stones get caught between the caliper and the wheel.

LOL GTR Joey bought those rims from me last year!! damn they look sexy on R33s. Have they been refinished yet?

How much repair parts for Alcon brake kits like calipers seals, pistons etc. ?

Contact these guys www.motorsportbrakes.com.au and they have repair kits and a large range of pads on the shelf specific to these alcon kits. Speak to Marty his a very helpful guy

Nah mate, as you sent them to him. The tyres on the are awful! lol. I think he will do them when he puts the semi's on. That should be very soon.

Ye the tyres were rubbish that's why I gave them away with the rims :P

Dim looks like I'm going to have to go with your setup. There's only so much playing around with the stock brakes you can do - at the end of the day, for any sort of non-street driving, they're simply just sh!t....

Just read a few pages back that these alcon's are more of a 'street' application rather than heavy duty track calipers. What's the major difference with them and I suppose the 'normal' alcon's? Would they perform better/worse than the D2/ATTKD brakes?

From what I've seen - exactly the same.

After 10,000kms, 3 track events and a tarmac rally event - my rotors were in great condition with DS2500 pads. DS3000 will eat a rotor if you use them heavily, and also by the same token, if you do not get them up to temp.

Just because one person tracks their car doesn't mean that they are using the brakes properly or driving the car 100% despite them thinking they probably are, your best selecting brakes from your budget and personal skill level than what others are using.

90% of novice drivers would not notice the difference between these basic Alcon kits and the Chinese kits IF they are fitted with the same pads.

In fact most wouldn't even notice the difference between a set of Supercar alcons and D2's with the same pads.

100% agree.

My car - D2, a mates car - Alcon... I couldn't notice a difference other than his brake pedal was slightly firmer than mine, but that could just be brake fluid/bleeding as I'd not done mine for a good 6 months.

Yeah go for it man! You wont regret it. The difference is like night and day compared to the stock brakes

I am very happy with my Alcon Advantage Extremes that I got from Dan at JDL. I must admit though I'm not a huge fan of the DS2500 pads that they come with, Not enough initial bite for my liking. You can order them with "Track Pads" but I'm unsure if they are the RS29 Pagids that are supplied with the bigger Alcon sets for the R35.

I might try a set of Carbon Tech XD10's

Yeah i didnt even bother with the stock pads it came with. Apparantly there not even a 2500 equivelant so i went with some pmu clubsports up front and 2500 at the rear. With everyone buying from jdl through this thread alone we probably could have organised a group buy pretty easily lol

I may be interested in purchasing a set - front and rears 365mm/350mm. Will look at getting PMU pads. Was thinking initially to buy the whole brake kit from PMU.

Get a few peeps onto this and maybe get a awesome deal!

Hey mate, Can you give me the part numbers for the PMU pads you fitted to the Alcons? I'm struggling to find a pad supplier with pads to fit. I emailed Carbotech and they don't have anything on the shelf to fit.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
