S A U - N S W Tech Night 21St Feb - Detailing

Recommended Posts

Massive thanks to the Motoractive guys for putting on a brilliant night, their generosity with time and the prizes was fantastic. Bought a whole swag of products and price was incredibly reasonable.

As Victory said the wraps were very good I was surprised at the quality of the finish on the R31!

I will definitely put the carbon wrap to good use!

Also how good was the carpark looking? MNP III and pearl white Nur R34 GTRs, Nick's and Eric's tough 33Rs, a range of very nice skylines and stags, E46 M3, and Aston V8 volante

Yes, thanks a heap to all organisers, and MotorActive and especially the guys who did my bonnet. Stoked. And I think I could hear the wind rushing off the slick wrap as i boosted into the night.

Thanks to SAU and Motor Active for putting on a great night! The brushed steel turned out amazing so thanks heaps for that.

+1 that came up great, good score :)

Great bunch of guys you are & so, the Meguiar's crew enjoyed it too.

This club of ours is the only club to have received a complimentary "wrap" > and not only did they give away one > it was two!!!

The winner of the "best sport award" has to go to Duncan!!!

> there he was minding his own business

> waiting for the door prizes to be given out

> I held ticket #18

> Duncan held ticket #26

> I said, "Take this. This is the winning ticket!"

> Duncan obligingly swapped

> The first prize awarded was of course, ticket #26

> Ticket #18 didn't win anything

> I'll let you know one day Duncan what was in the box :whistling:

This story is word for word true. But to be honest, nothing will ever beat winning that navara t-shirt at the 21st anniversary GTR R32 cruise

Duncan, your comment about the Rotary, LOl

Let's face it, no-one likes them

Was a good night indeed thanks to everybody who made this happen! Got straight home from work this afternoon and started the same process Owens bonnet undertook on my entire car.......BY HAND! 3 hours later I'm still not finished lol! Its damn hard work! Will post pics up tomorrow when finished :)

Thanks to Terry for doing most of the work in setting this night up (us Execs didn't have to do much at all, so full credit to him!). Thanks to the Motor Active crew for the night, a very informative and enjoyable night!

Hahaha its wrapped in car cover at the moment but looks like the lousy weatherImy Gunna let me finish the job :(

Mick, is the vehicle outside or undercover? If outside probably not a good idea putting a car cover over the vehicle just after freshly detailed the vehicle.

Basically a car cover will allow some water to seep through (as a car covers composition will not block 100% of water) and heat transfer .....and these two conditions can result in "blotches" in your paintwork. This happened to someone I know who finished detailing their car, was happy with the result, put a car cover on, rained overnight, was very hot and humid the next morning, and then noticed all blotches over their paintwork.

The car is outside Benji so far it hasnt stopped raining so hopefully it doesnt get blotches

Cheers for the advice though. Majorly pissed bout the weather put ALOT of hard work into my car yesterday :domokun:

ahahahhahaha Matt's expression in the last photo! DAT WRAP

Terry - just mates who've seen it, they think it's really nice and are considering getting some other parts wrapped too, I know where to direct them for purchasing =) oh and I did get a guy driving beside me shout out 'nice car' and thumbs up!

But just mainly me. I stare at my car for even longer than usual now...

    • Hi, i’m making a rb25det coil loom for Vag short coil. Can anybody tell me which Ecu signal wire belong to coil number 1 and 2,3,4,5,6? The connecting switch in above pic is 8 wire i think white is for +12v and black for earth.
    • Was there ever a model of the Stagea m35 that didnt have a badge on the grill? I thought I saw that somewhere, some aero edition or something? I cant find it again? davemoto
    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
