Was an ugly rep, but I locked out 192.5kg for a new pb. Still 80kg, still 6'3 :P

Have another two reps left in the 160, so I might try adding them next time and see if I can make the 1RM again.

Steady improvement Birds, knocking on the door of 200kg

Training for GPC States my deadlift has been good. Hit a couple of PBs

regular DL 210kg x 5

deficit DL 220kg x 3

Should pull 260+ at States if I can keep my back in one piece

A 260+ pull is awesome!

I tried block pulls off 6cm blocks the other day. I can deadlift more normally then from blocks but that doesn't surprise me really. I think ill keep doing them and see if they help overall

Thanks fellas. John you should definitely start 1RMing again; they do so much for volume weights and reps!

Awesome pulls there Nick. What weight class do you plan to be in for states?

I spoke too soon... hurt my back again! That said it's healing really quickly this time so I'll just have a couple of weeks off squatting/deadlifting and then should be back into it fingers crossed

hopefully I can make states... I'll do a little weight cut to get under 90kg birds... but if back still no good I'll do bench only in the 100s

going to switch to sumo so prob won't be pulling too heavy until I get technique/mobility down

Prolapsed disk between L5-S1. No MRI to confirm but pretty sure that's the diagnosis. It's settling really quick this time though so if it keeps improving I should be back to training soon. Was hoping to squat 250 at states so that might not happen but Nats is the goal this year.

I overhead pressed today without any pain. Not heavy though.

Same injury as last time then?

Who do you/PTC use for physiotherapy and diagnosing this kind of stuff? Feel free to PM; wouldn't mind knowing a physio who understands and deals with powerlifters and the related injuries, as these are the movements I engage in nowadays. I'm also sick of explaining to physios what a barbell squat is, only to have them explain back to me the function of the shoulders during the supposed overhead shoulder pressing motion that occurs during a squat...

Yep just a flare up.

Yes I used Jason Mawby Chiropractor last time. He is a Powerlifter but he's in Rosebud. I can't get down there so have been going to my old Osteo at the MOSIP clinic in Caulfield. Also very good, not lifters but definitely know what a squat is.

Have pulled back on 1RM training for the time being, to focus on getting my volume up. 165kg for 5 is a new pb in that department. Will try for 6 next time, or up the weight to 167.5kg.

Once volume comes up to, say...180kg for 5...I'll head back to 1RM and try passing 200kg.

New 5 rep pb. Forgot to put some weights on one end when I first lifted it. Really fked me for the actual set, but still got it out. Made the 185kg reps really farkin tough, though.

Hoping to go 170kg for 5 next time.

    • I don't know, I've never done it that way, but 1. While it is an interference engine, there is still clearance between the valves and the piston at all points in the regular timing cycle 2. There is not a lot of distance before you can't catch the top of the valve stem any more I don't know if 2 is greater or less than 1. But 3. If it doesn't work out you are f**ked, engine is coming out to disassemble so it is a big bet.
    • Semi slicks are horrible for road use, just use a high performance road tyre unless you really need the maximum grip. Noisy, unpredictable (amazing, until they are not), expensive due to very high wear and not good in cold and particular wet. And yes, it is a thing to store cars on stands instead of tyres if you know they are going to be parked up long term.....but who ever realises that a short park is going to stretch into years before it is out again!
    • I know in Australia you'll definitely get above 30c. Parked in the shade in Summer you'll be above that. 😛 But in cooler climates, you might get that warm driving on the highway for a bit, but you'd never get to full heat temp. I'll try and find some of my historical tyre temps between Aus summer and winter (be aware immin the warmer area of Aus too.)
    • I get that taking off the head is best but that's a bit much for "just" valve seals. I was just under the impression that one would be able to rotate to TDC and be able to temporarily drop the valve without losing it and effectively having to remove the head to then recover it. I never knew people actually pushed rope into the cylinder to do valve seals hahaha So just to confirm, just going to TDC will not work? In that case I know when I do valve seals I'll maybe just remove the head and do some other things while I'm there, or just wait until I do an engine build.
