Get the genuine gauges.

APEX'i / Defi / HKS etc...

Heaps of people running similar too mine without a hassle! In GTT's i know Martin is, Kurtis is, Ben is......... All similar sorts of brands etc

Cheap Gauges! Do the job well enough!

Yeah you and other members have cheap gauges, but they are not 'fake'...

It's the 'fake' gauges that are shit and sold at cheap prices.

You say cheap as in they are cheap because they are not the JDM brands (like the ones I have mentioned) but they actually still work :)

Genuine = Works and cost more money.

Cheap = Works and cost less money.

Fake = Does not work and cost less money = Waste of money.

Pretty accurate on mine!

How do you know your jdm gauges are accurate

I use Stack gauges,,,very happy with them and I have tested my water temp and oil pressure and they are both spot on.

Another useful gauge would be Volts.

Cheers

After having some shitty knock off defis, went genuine and got DEFI's single DIN unit.

Wish I got them sooner. Kit was amazing, everything is so well made and the installation is easy as, even comes with solderless connections.

Left to right, water temp, oil temp, oil pressure.

One thing I've found, on the track, you don't normally have time to look at gauges.

If you can get gauges with a output alarm, it's a big plus, as you can wire it to a led light on the dash. To give you a indication of some thing is wrong.

Just my 2cents

I'm looking for a digital water temperature readout for my S14. I'd prefer just a small digital readout instead of a full size 52mm gauge or similar.
I know Yashio Factory had the Okachan water temperature gauge (it measured other things too) but this is discontinued and hard to find now.

I'm not sure if it was inaccurate either, as it plugs into the ECU and uses the factory temp sensor. Or maybe that was a good thing, I don't know.

Either way - does anyone know of a similar alternative?

Cheers!

Engine Gaurdian.

Digital display.

Thermocouple temperature gauge and alarm.

Has outputs to control thermo fans at whatever temp you choose.

2 alarm levels, again at whatever temp you choose. Alarms are visual and buzzer.

No Tee-ing into coolant lines so doesn't cause any new potential failures like the popular japanese Tee into the top hose does.

Not dependant on having full coolant to work accurately.

There's a few different models. $120-$150 on ebay last time I bought one. I've been using them for years and have them on all my cars - track car, 4WD, everyday car .

Awesome, thanks mate! Seems like the sort of thing I'm looking for.
Is this right?

Also, is there any option to use a normal coolant sensor with it?

that's the one I use. Some can also do oil temp/pressure as well I think.

It uses a thermocouple bolted to the head. Fit it under a thermostat housing bolt.

It doesn't have the option to use a normal coolant sensor.

It is better than a normal coolant sensor because it doesn't have to be immersed in coolant to read an accurate temperature. ie if you get a leak, a gauge using a normal immersed sensor is useless - it can even read cooler than normal when the engine is overheating.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
