A quick update and some Pre-Matsuri prep. I got the new tyres fitted up to the new wheels and mounted them up front, to have some fresh rubber where it's needed most. The tyres that were up front, will be skidded off. Check out the build date of the new wheels.

I gave the car a service, and fitted up a new oil cap

While servicing the car, I noticed that the engine mounts are a bit worn. I've ordered new ones, but they won't arrive in time for Matsuri. To alleviate this, I fitted up an engine torque damper. This meant lowering the remote filter mount.

While the wheels were off, I took the liberty to remove the the brake pads which had become glazed up due to putting around town. A quick scuff up on the concrete floor and after re-bedding them in again, they have that aggressive bite back. One problem I did notice however, is this...hmm.

Man this Matsuri is coming around quickly. I've organised my tyres for the event and in hindsight, I've probably arranged too many, but time will tell. I just hope the car makes it through the weekend so I can burn them all off. One thing that has been keeping me up all night is the clutch. It has been in there for a while now, and although It's not slipping, I decided to take a spare just in case.

And to facilitate the numerous wheel/tyre changes, a spare set of wheel nuts.

I also have a rather large package on the way from Jesse Streeter, but It's going to be touch and go as to whether it will arrive in time and if so, whether I'll have time to fit it. Meanwhile the tow vehicle has decided to split a radiator end-tank and so a new Koyo-Rad is set to arrive midweek. To be honest, I'm more concerned about the tow car making the ten hour round trip, It's getting a bit long in the tooth now. Ah the thrill of it all...

Awesome build thread man, surprised it took me so long to see it haha.

I love everything you've done with the car, a nice practical approach (kinda what I am hoping to do). Lots of pricey goodies fitted too! :)

Hope everything goes well with the Matsuri. Make sure to post pics/vids :)

Thanks man, will do. I've got the GoPro charged and ready to go.Yeah, It's starting to become a real money pit . I've been quietly following your build for some time now, It's coming along very nicely. And that Japan trip, god damn that looks amazing. I must get across there sometime.

Haha cool, thanks man. I can't describe how good the Japan trip was lol.

Aim is to attend as many events as I can this year and also do everything to the car that I want, except engine. That can be next years plan lol.

Nice, in the s14? If so, that's quite an extensive 'to do' list you have, good luck. I'll be sure to come and say hi, as I don't think I'll know anyone there, haha.

Haha yeah S14 :S I have most of the parts I need now, but have to drive to work tomorrow (daily too)

Tomorrow night I'll put it on stands and start pulling the box out, new box in, fab up X member, have tail shaft made....

GOOD FUN!

I'll only know Dodge Dave from Sydney (Red R31), but should be a rad time, keen to go for a smash

Hey mate, over the weekend i installed the GKTech steering rack spacer + lock washer. I put the steering rack spacer into the passenger tie rod as instructed and trimmed 13mm off the passenger tie rod. I also installed the lock washer into the drivers side. After doing this and trying to adjust for zero toe i still had loads of toe in.

I then removed the lock washer from the drivers side and i still have a heap of toe in. I cut the passenger tie rod down like i was supposed to so i think i did it all right but not 100% sure, first time doing anything bar changing coilovers haha. Did yours do something similar? Probably not as i would assume the ikeya formula gear would have loads of adjustment.

PS, i will be at winton for matsuri this weekend as well, definitely keen to come have a chat to you :)

Cool, come and say hi :action-smiley-069:. I'll be the guy who, like in your avatar, has no idea what I'm doing.

I'm running an offset spacer on both sides and have more lock one way than the other. I've just always driven around it, but the Ikeya gear has a funky double adjustment, that gives you plenty of adjustment either way. I have a spare set of the Ikeya tie rods, I'll bring them with me and you can have a look for yourself.

Hehe. I tore it open like a kid on Christmas mourning.

It's a Bride Gias II.

Having a carbon fiber shell and aluminium frame, It's quite light, yet surprisingly comfortable.

As you'd expect, it came with all the authentic paperwork, mounts and hardware.

In other news, I gave the car It's first wash since the hill climb. It's almost looking white again. And I noticed, since installing the engine damper, it seems to glide into gear very smoothly. But I'm yet to drive it in anger.

    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
