LTHLRB
So im looking at purchasing a set of cams and iv come across these camtech cams. Has anybody heard of them? Anybody Using them? opinions will be much appreciated. Also what cams does everybody recommend using in a stock bottom end RB25 with a GT3076 .82. Making 300kw now on 16/17psi will be upping the boost to 20+psi when i decide on cams and wont be using the VCT. Cheers, Phill. NYTSKY
Keep VCT. I called Camtech about the biggest cams for VCT, they said 268 IN/EX with 9.0mm lift. At the time he didnt have any feedback from people running them so I just left in my HKS step 1's. LTHLRB
How would 268 go on a 3076? im looking at the 264 in/ex 9mm lift. Any advantage of leaving the VCT? wouldnt the vernier cam gear (when adjusted) be better? NYTSKY
In all honesty cams are not needed for 300kw however if you want to spend the money keeping VCT is a big plus for low down torque. Piggaz
Vct is the best thing ever. 26 guys spend thousands putting it on and you want to chuck it in the bin? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996069 Share on other sites
Ben C34
Obviously vct is bette that adjustable can gear. The factory wouldn't have used it if it wasn't good. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996083 Share on other sites
jet_r31
How would 268 go on a 3076? im looking at the 264 in/ex 9mm lift. Any advantage of leaving the VCT? wouldnt the vernier cam gear (when adjusted) be better? Im no expert, so take it with a grain of salt, but i think they are to big and suited for 60+- to 67mm turbos i'd use something in the 250's for a 3076 to fill up the powerband cams need to be be matched to turbine/exhaust flow, as thats always your bottleneck....backpressure sure you can shift your powerband to the right, but backpressure will be the one to have the final say in the matter and nose the curve over generally, no matter how big the camshaft fitted cheers darren Edited August 30, 2013 by jet_r31 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996112 Share on other sites
boostn0199
Poncams seem to be the popoular drop in choice for that power level im happy with mine gained mainly in midrange and 10 kw peak. LTHLRB
Looks like ill be keeping vct and going hks 256 in 264 ex with an exhaust cam gear. They look like a popular/good choice. Im after a fatter mid range and try to have a more aggressive overall power ban. LTHLRB
Vct is the best thing ever. 26 guys spend thousands putting it on and you want to chuck it in the bin? I doubt the stock vct would even compare to an aftermarket vcam setup. vorse
I doubt the stock vct would even compare to an aftermarket vcam setup. it does exactly the same thing only for a motor that wasn't designed for it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996576 Share on other sites
LTHLRB
I know it does the exact same thing. But does it give as much of an improvement as lets say a vcam on a 26? Piggaz
I know it does the exact same thing. But does it give as much of an improvement as lets say a vcam on a 26? Hard to know the answer to that. Who would do a back to back with the OEM unit then a Vcam. Either would have much more twist down low than a static cam arrangement. LTHLRB
Would like to see dyno graphs with vct on and a vernier cam gear on intake. See what difference there may be Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996641 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
This is just daft. How the hell can anyone expect any cam, at a fixed position, to produce more torque both bown low and up high than the same cam that is advanced and retarded to make it suit the rpm range? Daft. Daft. Daft. VCT is clearly a benefit. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/431071-camtech-cams/#findComment-6996648 Share on other sites
