Depends what year MX6 you're talking about. The second generation was sold as a Ford Probe (and shared parts with the 626), although it was not a huge sales success, it should be fairly easy to get parts for. Reliability wise, I'm note sure, but I know they used 4WS which adds complexity and cost in maintenance. Not really a performance car by any stretch of the word. Looks? Eye of the beholder but I think the Ford Probe looks a lot better than the Mazda. Neither are beautiful cars though.

First gen turbo's were pretty cool cars, but are getting quite old now.

The 4WS system on early models...

* added substantially more weight

* were quite complex

* on breakdown were prone to default to full lock

I read somewhere that Mazda designed the 4WS system to default to center in the event of failure, pretty scary if that last point is true...

Yeh I'm just not sure what to get I want something 2 door but still a little bit fun to drive i don't want to spend the earth I just need it to get me from point a to b lol but I'm not willing to go down the path of a barina or something like that originally I wanted an ae82 4age rolla but I can't find any

MX6 turbos are heaps of fun, reliable and reasonable on fuel. They have good off boost torque and are really comfy inside. They torque steer as you would expect being a FWD turbo though. Such a bargain for so much car. Wish I never sold mine as it was red, 2WS, manual, in really good condition and had a USC bodykit which make them look fantastic in my opinion. I had a 2.5" exhaust on it too which sounded great and was not boomy at all. If I had the garage space I would buy one now just coz I loved my one so much.

4WS reverts to *straight ahead* in the event of errors being detected.

The early ones were extremely reliable cars. They used a mazda ute engine with a tiny turbo attached. Not much top end power, but tons of torque down low. It would pull quite happily from 1.5k rpm even in high gears. The 4WS system made it a bit tail happy, certainly was a bit of fun in the wet. Also good for tight parking spaces.

I dont have any experience with the later ones. By accounts the V6's were smoother and more linear, and lacked the old-school turbo punch.

Not really all-out sports cars, more like cruisers and tourers. From an era when I would consider buying new mazdas...

mysister has the manual v6.

its a terrible car. drives like shit, gearbox is useless, engine has f**k all power for a v6. heard the turbo's are decent.

however i do not recommend.

seriously it drives like crap. and i have a commodore!!!!!

I used to own a 92 mx6.. 2.5 V6 4ws etc.. I loved it.

same as this http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/1992-Mazda-MX-6-Pictures-c5719#&pictureId:9398519

upgraded the exhaust which made a big difference. Never had a problem with it and I quite like the styling. To me at the time it was pretty quick, mind you I had never driven a turbo then, only old 70's capella, 80's camry type things.

I had it up to 220kph no worries (No speed limit in the NT back then) it still held the road and handled very well! Though the fuel gauge went down faster than the windows at that speed lol. I found it very comfortable to drive and liked the dash curving toward the driver. Also easy to reverse park.

I give it a big thumbs up =)

But bare in mind it is at least 10years older now...

I am looking at a V6 MX6 myself as a stress free daily. I borrowed my folks years ago for about 3 months and they are cool cars. The V6 sounds pretty cool,. revs nicely. They are comfortable, handle ok...and the best thing is the owners are like my folks...mechanics say spend thousands on bushes, shocks, ...stuff...and they typically have. So for less than 4kl its pretty easy to find one with a mature owner and good service history.

I am having loads of problems trying to find a decent E36 or B5 A4 because waaay too many idiots have driven them into the ground as the cars second and thirds owners. Stereos were more important than servicing it seems.

So, if you like the styline of the MX6.,..which I do I think they are a good fun, low key daily that are dirt cheap. Though they are not mega economical...but that may be the result of how i drove. it. They are not fast, but they rev and are fun. You can get up them and they are brisk and you are not doing anythign highly illegal or going to lose your licence.

The v6 mazda 626/mx6 engine was a piece of crap!! at one stage it seemed to be the only thing I was working on and ultimately was a big reason for leaving the trade (besides money) and the bastards leak oil like a sieve

Also as mentioned above they have issues with the bushes being flogged out of them, fuel pumps on their last legs and electrical gremlins

I opted for Prelude VTiR 5th gen and then 4th gen in between GTRs.

I'll try and locate Morley's Report on the 4th gen

Hey man I had a 4th gen vtir and my girlfriend drives a 5th gen vtir I loved it but I'm can't be trusted with vtec Hondas the urge to spend money on them is to much for me lol that's why I want something I can't really touch bar your standard pod filter and stuff post-99784-13832347867318_thumb.jpg

Lol

4th gen is so sexy

VTiR allows high revving all day

What's your budget then?

It's a bit hard to resell some cars; so even if it's a daily, one should be pretty selective.

I'm thinking around the 2.5k mark is honestly be happy with an AE82 twincam rolla but I can't find one for the life of me I love the 4AGE engine maybe I watched to much initial D ? Hahaha

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
