Although mine have this7874symbol-thumb.jpg skyline symbol rather than the datsun D

  • 2 weeks later...

I still love that bonnet :D

any ideas what type of brakes were fitted to this?

I am starting to look at bigger brake upgrades, especially trying to turn the rears into disks instead of drums.. anyone have any ideas?

i think the Datsun 1600 might be a similar set up (drums) so i may need to check it out on the 1600 side..

Fall down and worship the 1600Master (me)

what you wanna know?

1600 rear susp is identical to c110.....except that it has an R160 diff.

by identical i mean the design....obviously its narrower.

Stewart Wilkins Motorsport(02) 45772400 make a rear disc conversion for the 240z/260z...may also fit the C110. Call them to confirm.

Quote SWR website "Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit suits 240/260Z $1,262.80"

Also the Stanza SSS 5speed (quite strong) is a direct bolt on to the L24e it is the short gearbox so im not sure of the fitment to C110.

Use a navara flywheel from the z24( i think) its heaps lighter...

Or....mr30 rear end would be heaps cheaper than dr30 for disc brakes

or....

Volvo discs fit the stud pattern and are a suitable offset...all you have to do is make up caliper mounts

so the MR30 rear definantly fits? i was going to go down that path and then was told that it wouldn't, so i gave up on that idea!

basically i am looking for a easy cheap way to upgrade the rears (since putting the RB30DET in is probably not a good idea on the current rears). the more they magically fit the better :D

thanks for the help, much appreciated..

I'll do some measuring of the mr30 rear clip i have today for you, just to be sure. the only problem i foresee is that the shockabsorber mounts are higher and slightly forward compared to the C110.....if you're using coilovers this wont be a prob( i think) as you could adjust the height to compensate.....leave it with me....Ill post again about 3 O'clock.

the advantage of the mr30 rear over say a c210 or c110 is that they have cv joints, so you wont have to mod your R200....

Fantastic, can't wait!

Oh and if it isn't any trouble, if you have easy access to a digital camera, some pics would be nice too :P

we only have coil overs for the front (rears wouldn't fit the current set up), but i am sure that it can't be that hard to source :D

Here is your measurements.

front mounts center to center = 1023mm

rear mounts center to center = 320mm

rear mount center line to front mount center line = 650mm

disc to disc(wheel mount face) = 1440mm

...and some pics

pic one is the shock mounting position on mr30

pic two is the pains i go to for SAU members

pic three is entire rear clip with measurements

fantastic!

i think i definantly owe you a beer for that effort :P ! (still can't work out how the camera / tape measure attacked you so badly though )

i will measure up our rear over the next few days and see how they compare, i looked up the control arm bush codes, and they seem the same, so fingers crossed it will.. i assume we just need to modify the top shock mounting position then (?) and we should be away! (of course i know that won't be the case!)

i assume that these R30's wouldn't be the easiest to track down though, will have to finally pull my finger out and head to a couple of wreckers i think!

thanks again, that is a HUGE help to me!

I just thought of what could be a major prob with this rear clip retrofit.....R30 springs are on the shocks and are probably far to big in diameter to fit in the C110 shock towers....coilovers may even be out of the question....unless of course you are willing to weld in some c210/r30 shock towers.....

Hmmm......i think this will be your only dilemma.....

Be very careful swapping semi trailing (A arms) between disc brake and drum brake R30 rear ends . I've seen people do this and wind up with massive toe in/out changes . To convert drum to disc most use the drum brake crossmember and A arms , simply drill and tap the old backplate holes oversize and make a caliper mount plate to bolt on . DR30 calipers are good because they use larger pistons . If you can't get these MR30 will do just mount them further out from the center and use DR30 discs .

Can't work out how the camera / tape measure attacked you so badly

It didnt....when i dropped the rear end out of the car for your photos the whole thing slipped and the diff housing hit my hand which was on the cement floor....squish

MR30s are a dime a dozen, I paid $180 for mine....its the 5door hatch one I don't know if they came in sedan or wotnot.......I see more of these than dr's!

Oh yeah and like disco said dont just swap contol arms...i meant for the whole rear to go in.....but those shocks are a worry

Guys,in referance to the rear springs mounting between the arm and the body discussed in the other thread....If the R30 rear end turned out to be a hassle, how about a 180B Dato rear cradle? Their springs mount on the lower A arm,and to the body...I don't know any measurments for them, but a 180 rear end with a nice R180 LSD would be nice! :P just a thought...

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
