I wouldn't say that dan had a small window when it came to passing perez. He was stuck behind him for ages after the last pit stop. For a few laps it looked like he had more chance to get overtaken by Vettel more than get passed perez. Had Dan been able to get passed sooner then Vettel would've gotten second instead of third. I was actually kind of cheering Vettel on for once in that race (after Dan).

It would've been nice to see Mercedes being beaten in full on racing rather than just limping around for the second half of the race waiting (and waiting and waiting) for the rest to catch up and pass them.

Yeah it is rather depressing that mercedes had such a disadvantage for near half the race and Dan still only just beat them. Albeit Perez held them up an awful lot, its still quite impressive how fast that mercedes must be around those corners as well as the straights (when the power unit is working)

lets hope its a trophy fitting of such a great man, and not one of those silly looking cat dishes

The trophies (Or the first place one) are, if memory serves, based on the steering wheel in one of the Coopers Brabham drove. Youll see the thin wooden trim around the outside. Not sure if the diameter is right but it may be.

So they are atleast ok in their inspiration if maybe not so much in their execution. Still there are plenty of more shit ones at the various races.

There doesnt appear to be any numbers for the race but looking at the trap speeds in quali:

Pos No Driver Time of Day Speed

1 11 Sergio Perez 13:05:19 337.7

2 19 Felipe Massa 13:28:15 337.5

3 77 Valtteri Bottas 13:27:53 335.6

4 44 Lewis Hamilton 13:53:28 334.0

5 6 Nico Rosberg 13:05:40 333.6

6 27 Nico Hulkenberg 13:27:50 333.4

7 26 Daniil Kvyat 13:30:55 332.0

8 25 Jean-Eric Vergne 13:31:08 331.7

9 20 Kevin Magnussen 13:05:49 331.5

10 22 Jenson Button 13:06:47 330.3

11 4 Max Chilton 13:06:41 328.7

12 7 Kimi Räikkönen 13:29:55 328.4

13 8 Romain Grosjean 13:31:25 328.3

14 14 Fernando Alonso 13:29:58 327.7

15 99 Adrian Sutil 13:05:31 326.4

16 3 Daniel Ricciardo 14:00:20 326.4

17 17 Jules Bianchi 13:08:37 325.9

18 1 Sebastian Vettel 13:31:04 325.1

19 9 Marcus Ericsson 13:04:50 323.5

20 10 Kamui Kobayashi 13:08:01 322.7

21 13 Pastor Maldonado 13:05:01 321.2

Yet again the RedBulls were near on the slowest and anything with MB power was up the front. Chico fastest of all. The DRS can only do so much. Dan only got past Perez when he started to have brake problems which meant he only had a small window to get it done and get after Britney. Had he not got either move done when he did it would have been p2 at best.

Well it is generally regarded as being a Renault issue more so than a RedBull issue. So I am going to go with no. That is based on the restrictions placed on the engine manufacturers as much as anything. Hoping Renault get their sh!t together for 2015. And Honda too, come to that.

RBR Mercedes, Dan world champion. :P

STR's are still Renault arent they? they are by far the 'fastest' Renault powered cars, but they didnt have the best run in Canada so maybe it was all down to a lower downforce setup

To me it looks a bit 50/50. But honestly Massa had plenty of room, Perez was entitled to have a look up the inside of Vettel. Both turned towards each other a bit but to me Massa turned in harder

yeah, the racing line... you are not allowed to change your line when someone has an overlap, that's the rule! Even if it just their front wing that overlaps. In this case is was wheel to wheel contact.

Perez does not have any entitlement to look up the inside of Vettel if there is another car already beside him - which clearly there was.

You can't go around swerving at a guy who has an overlap in a 300kph braking zone.

Bu tthat's not what Vettel was doing anyway - Vettel was 2.5-3 car lengths up the road and Perez was nursing rear brakes at the time!

So, my question is, does red bull have the tech (and money) to be able to get backup to mercedes speed prior to the end of the season? or will that tech be copied in the off season in time for next year?

They have the money, yes, but given that no performance changes are allowed to be made to the engines, only "reliability" changes. So we won't see changes to their pace till next season. Even then they can't make massive changes.

As for rbr vs str, I'd say that aero package and chassis, and possibly even gear ratios, are the reason for the speed difference.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
