ok so since i cant find any GTR brembo calipers for a decent price ( i personally think its way too inflated!) ive decided to give a set of Evo X brakes a thought after potentially taking on a v36 conversion.

rotor sizes-

Evo X: 350mm X 32mm, 43.7mm height

V36: 355mm X 32mm, 49.0mm height

BCNR33: 324mm X 30mm, 54.3mm height

now im willing to spend the coin on brackets to be manufactured, which RaceBrakes in Sydney have stepped up to the task, but the costs are around $300 per bracket is the guestimated quote. I'm looking to get my hands on a set of Evo X brakes and bringing it over the RaceBrakes to see if they can mock it up and see if ample strength from their brackets once installed.

R33/34 Brembos seem to be sitting around the 800-1000 mark + brackets to adapt to fit the V36 rotors (355/350), which at the end of the day will cost me the same to get the Evo X brakes. biggest advantage is being able to get higher performing 2 piece rotors and pads for the Evo option i believe.

has it been done before? what problems will i face if any with the increased piston size? will the weight throw the balance off on the car that much with the difference in unsprung weight?

Sounds like a good conversion..one which I'm going to do myself .

I did a brake conversion using evo 9 calipers and rotors on my brothers gtir , & what an amazing difference they made to the standard garbage.

Im just wondering if i should just jump to the touareg/cayenne/q7 type 6 spot caliper instead of the 4 spot because of the extra weight of the gtr.. keen to see what you come up with.

exactly what i was contemplating to try @lidz

will be pairing the calipers (rebuilt) up to Dixcel FCR 2 piece rotors and Dixcel Type Z pads for street driving, whilst the rears will be utilising a bracket to space the stock brembo caliper out to accept a V36 350mm Dixcel FS rotor with type Z pads also.

Track days i will simply switch out to Dixcel Type RA pads front and rear to cope with the R33's weight issue

Price break down?

I've got eve 9 brembos on my r32 gtr. on front and run 350z brembos on the rear.

B&R brakes blacktown did all the brackets and new lines including rebuilding and powder coating the callipers. amazing job.

Yer the evo calipers are cheeep, calipers come with pads in them, and the adaptors were about 300, i think braded ADR lines $60 and rotors about 120 each for slotted,

I sanded back and painted the calipers my self as the standed paint is shite

Interesting. These are the prices I got when looking at this option:

$350 ALPHA OMEGA Evo 350mm Brembo billet aerospace alloy caliper adapter kit

$850 Pair of Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 Brembo front calipers (used)

$120 Brembo caliper rebuild kit for one pair of calipers

$200 Brembo brake caliper rebuilding service for one pair of calipers

TOTAL = $1520

+cost of Discs and Brake lines.

I opted to go for the D2 8 Pot 356mm kit instead. Bigger, cheaper and came with everything required. (and it's all brand new)

There evo9 calipers. Ebay actuly i got the calipers from, 850$ is way to much, i redid the calipers my self, that price wiould include labor,

On the track they are great, so much better then my standed brakes, i wouldent even think of buying r34 brakes, the calipersalown are like atleast 1000$, also a old set up, dont even have external brake pipe for the 2 blocks,

Problem i have is the abs kicks in way to soon even tho the brakes have much more left in them,

Yeah when looking for an upgrade I was surprised to discover that the R32/33/34 Brembos aren't much bigger than the standard 4 pot Sumitomos & not worth the upgrade.

Problem with ABS kicking in? Tyres possibly? Currently using Potenza RE002 (265's) with BM50 and they can take a fair bit before ABS kicks in.

Could be due to brake bias from the bigger piston at the front?

Doubt it, most of the weight of R32-R34 GTR's is at the front. That's why they have such a huge bias towards the front for braking hardware. I asked about upgrading the rears and the advice I got from Racepace was to not bother upgrading the rears. I had Brembo's on the front before the 8 Pot D2's and it feels identical brake bias wise. Good pads and discs and that's all the rear pretty much needs after the front upgrade.......

.....Unless of course you're building some kinda track monster, that has had weight reduction/re-distribution and needs to do a gazillion laps on every outing :)

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.     • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
