Jimmy I did the rear diff 10 years ago :) The diff(erence) is that rebuilding the standard rear is fine, and as it is used more often is likely to be a bigger difference. In the front the quaife LSD is a particularly good option because will power understeer less than a normal mechanical diff, but it's not a priority unless you are genuinely getting wheel spin at the front wheels.

As I'm not running huge HP, the front diff isn't really necessary?

It's not power related, it's HOW it drives and pulls out of corners.

Think of two big bear claws ripping at the road I front instead of some shitty open diff attempting to do something.

If the motor is out and you have to do diff anyway then it's a good time to put the quaife in, but as Duncan said its not a necessity to pull the diff apart from a running car until you have big power spinning tyres but while it's apart it's a good mod to do

Would you guys do mods to the front diff first than the rear? If so, why?

Read on :D

About $1,300-$1,400 ish landed, depending on exchange rates.
Just Jap have them too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It was one of the best mods I've EVER done to the car, I wish I did it years ago.

100% agree.

After I put the Nismo centre into mine... Holy feck, totally changed the car into a grip machine.

You MUST have a rear diff done as well to compliment it though IMO. Especially if you have A-LSD, which the OP will have... The A-LSD firmly shits itself once you put a decent front diff in as there is so much grip forward it doesn't know what to do at the other end. Add 15+ years of wear, it's not pretty.

So if you do one, you do both as a rule or at least get the rear done not long after as it's pretty shit to drive in a spirited fashion.

Just out of curiosity what is the benefit of adding an aftermarket diff to the GT-R and how does it behave with Tarzans G-box?

Mechanical over electronic in terms of what you get more gains from for that type of stuff. Transfer case & Front/Rear diff combo will blow a controller outta the water, it'll also cost you about 4-6k more :)
In basic terms the 4WD controllers are controlling the amount of power sent forward, sooner etc as XKLABA said. However if things are worn like the transfer case, diffs and so on, there is only 'so much' electronics can help with and this is where doing the mechanicals really makes the biggest difference.

Diffs are the next big ticket item on my agenda.

I'm thinking shimmed rear and quaife front. Would be the best bang for buck option?

If anyone is interested at all in digital g sensors, make sure you check out the Do-Luck DTMII. It has the same features as the Tarzan GBox but also uses throttle input to adjust the attessa. check it out here: http://www.r33gt-r.com/2013/10/do-lucks-dtm-ii-part-1-installation.html

I'm yet to get a chance to drive Paul's car with the Quaife front to see how it differs to the Nismo... But yeah for a budget that would be a good option with a shimmed rear, you are luck you have a 32 - makes it much cheaper than a R33 Vspec lol.

Once you do transfer case F/R diffs - you'll soon see you probably wouldn't even go and get a controller... You will seriously love the improvements proper diffs give.

^^. After putting the Nismo in the rear, it has taken a bit of the front drive away. That GT pro is one aggro mofo. After speaking to Chris last time I was down, they do a few cheeky mods to it (which is no surprise). Mine is currently set on medium which is waaayyy too crazy balls. I'll back it off and when the box comes out, get the transfer case mod done. That should sort it out.

I too would like to see how the Nismo front differs. With the stock diff there was a fair whack of torque steer, with the Quaife it's 95% gone I'd say. What you think is too early to get on it, it's not. I've turned around to redo the corner and basically get on it as soon as I tip it in. Best. Mod. Ever!

    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • Those above shitboxes, mediocre and above usually have a turbo strapped to them, hence the slightly higher octane is required.
    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
