Best Cam To Install With 2860-5 Garrets

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am about to install garret 2860-5 into my r32gtr. Is it a good idea to also install some aftermarket cams and if so which would be a good set.

At the moment I am running 270awkw on e85.

It also has all the other good bits and so it's time to install turbos just wondering if aftermarket cams is a good idea or not.

Thanks

Walbro internal fuel pump

Greddy oil re - location kit

Greddy oil cooler kit

If it's for hillclimb i wouldn't even go -5's. Go -7's and put E85 through it. Though that's just me.

So the engine is not rebuilt?

In that case don't spend the money on cams, save it for a rebuild down the track.

This.

If not

Tomei Type B.

Standard or Tomei type R.

Type B's, too much duration for the lift given. Bigger is not always better.

but...but.... They go Braap braap braap braap braap........

You can, if you ask Tomei nicely, get them to supply you with a number of different cams - you dont have to go typeA/B/R. Eg the exhaust on a type A is 252 degrees that on a B 260. But you can (Or could) order up a 256 degree cam if you wanted.

Anyway with E85 you would lean toward a type B - but again it all depends on how much you want to grind out of the thing and how much low end losses you are prepared to live with. I once had type B's with -5s (albeit on petrol) and as a hillclimber they sucked balls. You cant get out of the slower chicanes as the thing takes forever to get on boost. Type A exhaust cam and a slightly smaller inlet cam made a good difference (Like near on 40 hp at 4000rpm) without killing the top end but again petrol and E85 are different things.
