Type 6 boards are out for R33 ECUs, far better than using a modified Z32 ECU

http://forum.nistune.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2708

Nistunes are NOT rubbish, I've tuned 3x S15s with them and I have no issue with them. The software is decent too, and has the ability to overlay AFR vs. load points on the trace windows (which I find very handy).

Currently using Adaptronic too, decent ECU however the software is not as refined as others but once you get your head around it it's ok.

Are the type6 boards actually available? There was a bit of fanfare but I haven't seen anything since.

What's wrong with nistune z32 modded ecu's for r33's?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think you only get partial knock detection, and an issue with the TPS which results in hesitation/poor driveability. Some people experience it, some don't.

I've got a Nistune in mine, and for the price, can't really complain. Had an issue recently where one of the tracks on the circuit board (not sure if Nistune or Mainboard) burnt through, and needed to be sent back for diagnostic and repair. Only cost like $80 for the fix including postage.

My main gripe is poor driveability on tip-in and closed throttle. Can drive around it, but means I need to ride the clutch a lot at low speeds. But, I'm told this is tune related rather than Nistune. Going for turbo upgrade soon so will see if re-tune fixes it. Also asked if ECU upgrade would be worth it and was told that Nistune would be fine.

In conclusion I guess, I'm not complaining with Nistune for the money. But if I were to start again, I would strongly consider getting something like the Adaptronic straight up.

Yeah after the feedback from you guys and doing some reseach about it, I think i might just save up a few pennys and buy a Power FC.

Thanks again everyone!

Just an update for what it's worth. After retune driveability issues are all gone. Cold start is great, and the issue I was having at part throttle has been tuned out. No limitations on Nistune there.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
