I was looking at the Phormula kits, well priced. Are they as good as the Kmon? Anyone used one?

I've used the K Mon before (in someone else's car) - not that user friendly.. however not the Phormula Kits.. they do look sexy!

nice little unit I must say!

I've been looking at those as well... There are some good YouTube demonstrations of it.

You guys interested in buying it together to save on shipping? I could potentially see if they're willing to do it cheaper if we get 3x and we do reviews on the unit(s) on SAU and also my personal site trak-life.com

Yeah, hence "if you are serious" ;) I make do with a G4 Knock Block

hahaha probably will never be that serious, although I've had a few SR20DET boys recently with basic bolt-ons asking for road tunes. I have another one next weekend going on E85, I've already swapped the injectors & pump and touched up his tune to accommodate the new squirters - might hire a dyno again for this one.

I think the Phomula KS-3 will be more than enough for my needs (mainly 98RON), I find E85 doesn't really knock unless you really fuark up the timing.. usually you know timing is at its peak when the car makes no power when you add more timing in.. then again, I'm relying on the factory knock sensors and the aftermarket ECU to pump out some arbitrary knock value which could mean absolutely nothing as others have told me.

Yep. Ask away. I have Paypal funds burning a hole in my hard drive. :)

KS-3 OR KS-4?

KS-4 has outputs so you can setup closed loop ignition feedback on certain ECUs to retard timing on knock OR whatever your heart pleases

actually...no.... ks-pro kit. the ks-4 doesn't have headphone output.

looks like we need 5 kits, but we get 15% off and free delivery!!!

Thanks for your email.

If you can get more than 5 units sold, I’ll authorise a 15% discount and offer free shipping to a single address in Australia. If you have anyone interested in other products or accessories we can extend the discount across those too. Hopefully that keeps things nice and simple.

KS-4 RRP £295… Group Buy £250.75.

KS-3 RRP £235… Group Buy £199.75.

Please let me know if you need any further information and I’d be glad to help.

Best Regards,

Anthony

right... So ive pretty much fixed it. I Reset CAS timing with the haltech, The cas WAS at 10* for some reason while the ecu thought it was 15*. .. anywho they are in sync now. no more knock issues..

Also installed a Walbro 255, Car runs very well now, still running some pretty light timing (15-16* or so at peak torque) great afr's all the way to redline (6500 currently) but im ALMOST out of injectors. like 90% duty cycle. so thats definitely coming soon.

Just to add add to what I wrote.

On the previous page op said he is using the oem knock sensors.

To me that's a fail.

And is unsure of the correct settings, and even mentioned he was registering knock when it wouldn't really be possible.

He then advanced the timing 5 degrees and it fixed it.

This is not a thread about how useful knock detection is.

It is is a thread about how having things you don't understand can actually make things more difficult for you.

Go get your car tuned op! And let us us know.

Ah yes, I just skim read it and assumed he had it too far advanced, hence the knock, but it is indicating 5 degrees retarded isn't it,

OP, you are reading the timing marks correctly aren't you? Also using the correct technique to read the timing?. (I.e. not on the cold start map and also using cyl no 1 lead and not the 'timing wire')

I didnt fix the "knock" by advancing timing, as mentioned in a previous post about setting up the haltech with the cas ( using ignition lock and making the computer and engine insync) it was off by 5* I retimed the car using a better timing light 15* in the ecu was 10* in reality. ( all i know for sure is that the computer didnt actually know what the hell was happening)

Ben, it seems when you come to your own conclusion it gives you the right to be a jerk, I'm really not about the internet tough guy so if you feel like you have to be that way don't bother posting on my thread, thanks.

BTW, the car never saw harsh driving and full knock situations. I was how ever getting ignition retard to a degree because the knock sensor calibration was very high. Im not an idiot and i know what will and what will not blow up a motor.

I was at the dyno on friday with a friends rb25 s13 running a Sprint 500 and his timing is at 20* through peak range with NO knock. I am running around 4-5* retarded of what he is running with LESS boost.

JJman, the car has now been timed properly and is running exceptionally well. Next step is to install injectors and start dyno tuning.

Thanks for all your POSTIVE imput guys, much appreciated.

    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
